Notchback TTA
Ok, I expect a ton of negative replies on this, BUT there was apparently 1 TTA made with the notchback configuration...
I was driving down the road (likely story) and I passed this White GTA, as it passed I noticed it had the Turbo emblem, and it whined like a turbo. I also noticed it had an authentic looking notch back, had what appeared to be the rib down the center....
My question is does anyone know where the sole 89 Notchback is, if you dont I suspect it may be in the Flint Area... At 100 miles an hour I could not read the SPID sheet in the center console, my X-ray vision is good but not that good...
I always assumed that GM still owned it.

Re: Notchback TTA
Only known occurence is the early Indy add for the TTA.
Never seen nor heard of since by any measure that I know of.
May have been converted and sold by GM as most of the promo cars are.
They would have pulled the notch from it as it didnt make production.
later

PS John u need to get some sleep your seeing stuff :-P

Re: Notchback TTA
John, I used to have an old grainy picture of a TTA Notchback, but it got lost in a computer meltdown. I was told it was a pre-production prototype and that the Notchback was considered for the Pace Cars to make it more distinctive, but that never came to pass.
Off the top of my head, I don't remember the build dates of the TTAs in '89 in order to compare availability but the Notchback option was gone by the end of August 1988. There was only an 8-day overlap in 1989 production before the option was dropped
Jim Mattison told me the last time we talked that Pontiac did not have a Notchback in their Historical Collection; they did once have some sort of race car with one installed, but it was destroyed.
And you're going to have to have a talk with that wife of yours....

Re: Notchback TTA
This car that I passed did not have the Large decals on the doors, only the Turbo emblem... I suspect that someone had replaced the original hatch...
a nice answer to this thanks to all of you...

Re: Notchback TTA
Rob, are you talking about the Notchback picture as being in the TTA press kit? I have one of those kits and that photo is not in the one that I have.... the others shown in that link are in there.
Yes, that's the photo I speak of..... the only thing that has always bothered me about it is the very sloppy location of the door decals. All of the other emblems are in their correct location except for those decals. But then that's just me....

Re: Notchback TTA
Frankie,
I imagine that the location is not a specified one... I have not looked in my parts & Illustration, but for all other cars they do not specify an exact location, just a box in the approximate spot.
With the exception of the fesitval cars I would be surprised if 10 cars had the same person install the decals, it seems there is no exact spot...
I agree, it looks too far back, the installer was told to line it up with the door handle, and he used the rear of the handle instead of the front. My guess...
In reality we can only assume that the particular car above is a TTA, not a White GTA with the Turbo graphics... Since the hood is closed and there is no documentation for this car, I would not be surprised if the pictured car is a 1988 GTA notchback with the emblems and decals to make it look like a TTA for picture taking purposes.

Also, there are many pics of festival cars with the door decals all over the place. Some all the way forward, all the way back, and centered.
