HELP with 1982 Firebird Shift **** "Stem"??"

Ok, my question is what is the correct name for the shift **** "Stem"?? The part that clips into the shift button, and goes down the shifter mechanism shaft. I looked in my part manual and the illustration section doesn't show it, but in the group listing the only thing that sounded right was LEVER, Detent. It was in the same group as the shift ****, button, handle, retainer, etc... It's group 4.006 In my '82-'83 Parts book. It shows 2 listings but both have the same part number.

If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it!

awesome...thanks!! For some reason that isn't even in my '82-'83 Manual, everything else is but that. That is for '82 though correct?? I know they changed them over the years. You would have to look in the actual group listing to see the year.

I have the 82-83 parts catalog too and it’s not there. So I checked the 1982-92 catalog. One thing I found with the early catalogs is that sometimes they don't include individual components inside assemblies. Typically, during the first few years of production individual components are not available over-the-counter, if there's warranty work GM will have the technician replace the entire assembly so there's no need for that much detail in the parts catalog. As cars start dropping off warranty, people start needing those individual parts. It also gives GM an excuse to get the Parts Catalog out the door.

Yes this is for the 82 Firebird, page 4-122,

Randy82WS7 - It’s from the Pontiac 1982-92 Part and Illustration Catalog, November 92
