Re: 1985 camaro shadow editon
Looks like 10,000 other Red Irocs made in 85. Nice car, but its not a numbered special edition. Plus the VIN is F. F is a TPI but a 305. Not a 350 as advertised. A 350 wasnt availible in that year and a 305 wasnt in the Vette either. Im calling BS on that ad. Whats with the mold on the steering wheel too?

I've never heard of anything called the shadow edition either. However, I don't doubt it since I have an IROC that no one has heard of but it happens to be in the depths of GM's computers....

The ad is full of crap. He is either extremely misinformed, ignorant, or trying to scam a naive buyer. It's nothing but his word and he offers nothing for documentation. And he won't be able too because it doesn't exist. Without documentation, any claims made mean absolutely nothing and thus are worth absolutely nothing. God forbid somebody gets suckered into paying extra for nothing.
His response to a person's question regarding the engine is equally pathetic, "The car has a Corvette engine. There were only a handful made.". And as such just reinforces the fact he can't support his claim any farther than that. And the onus is his to prove it, not ours.
As stated by Mikz86TA, I wouldn't believe anything beyond the VIN in which the eighth digit states F which is the 305 TPI engine. The best and largest engine option available for '85. It's nothing more and nothing less. And definitely NOT a Corvette engine. I'd like to see the block's casting number.
Buyer beware.
And for your friends claim, unless he's got proof, then he can't prove his claim either. Sorry.

Welcome to TGO.
Have you tried searching the site for any mention of this special edition? It could have been a dealer/regional package. And,as Mikz86TA and Iroctopless stated, the VIN on the Ebay IROC indicates a LB9 TPI 305(eighth digit F).'80 or '81 was the last time the 305 was available in the Corvette(and then mainly in CA).The B2L/L98 TPI 350 wasn't available till '87(eight VIN digit 8).
And the climate control/cleaning procedures should be check on that red IROC.It's a nice looking car and exceptionally low mileage if correct. But she's not a heavily optioned car(no power door locks,EQ Radio, deluxe luggage trim). Also it's stated she has the hatch release but where's the button.

i tend to agree that the ebay car is a fake, but your friends car may not be ill guarentee its not a factory package, i have heard of dealer and custom shop modifed cars like this thou that had other engines and modifications done to them, i was talking to a man at the chevy nationals carlisle car show this year who had a 82 z28 with a crossfire 350 in it, and he was telling me that he worked for a dealerships shop that in 82 took 25 fully loaded z28s all with crossfires, took out all the 305's and transplanted crate 350's in them and used all the stock intakes and carbs and whatnot, and sold them off as SuperFire editions, his was one that he had found a few years after it had been sold, he said the only visual difference in the car was 3 badges that said superfire edition Z28 on the, one on the dash, one on the rear bumper and one on the air clearner. i asked him if this was something approved by gm or something done under the table, and he said he didnt know, he was just given the order to modify 25 of these cars, he did tell me thou they sold for almost 3500 more than the orignal z28 and that last one didnt leave the lot until the end of the 83 model year. he also thought they all had functional hoods but wasnt sure about that.
but anyways unless its a well known shop or a becomes well known its nothing more than a modified car, no different than if you or i would drop a 350 in it. i would like to see a set of those plates thou(that ebay car doesnt show them).
but its 100% definatly not a factory package. so unless it could be tracked down to the place it was sold from or the place it was moddified you will never get any kind of certification on them. good luck in your search thou

Re: 1985 camaro shadow editon
I would'nt brag about a 305 Vette engine from the early 80s is that was his point. Plus it wasnt a TPI in the 80-81 vette. Someone already posted a question and he answerd. Hes in denial. I posted another question and pointed out his mis-information reguarding the VIN. Anyways, hes a BS-er reguardless. VIN says F in his ad and listing says 350. As far as a dealer option for an area...maybe. But no dealer would have the authority to swap a 350 into an orig 305 VIN car. Not without an additional CARB label and info somewhere. Insurance industry would not have it either.

WHat I find interesting is there was no pic of the rear bumper showing the "5.7 Tuned port Injection" as it would have been if it was a 350 car...
that, and the fact the VIN indicates a 5.0...
Has someone asked these questions to him and get him to take a pic of the emissions engine label on the hood showing 5.0 Litre oops I mean 5.7 Litre
John

Funny. When he mistakenly thought it was a super rare, 1 of 8, incredibly unique IrocZ, he wanted $15,000 for a starting bid.
Now that it's a normal IrocZ, what's the starting bid? . . . $15,000!!!!!
I do give him cudos for correcting his ad after he realized what he really had.
Be sure zerocool394, to tell your friend he may have to change his story too.
Think about it, any Camaro that is truly an official rare car, would have scads of articles, books, topics, info, stats, and websites all dedicated to them. For example . . . Yenko's, COPO's, 1LE's, SLP's, etc, etc.
You'd have to question yourself why something that special has no supporting info anywhere.

i may be wrong but i didnt think the 67 or 68 yenkos were actually official cars? i know in 69 don yenko worked with chevy, but i know that they were not allowed to be raced for chevy in quite a few series because they were not a official car.

Re: 1985 camaro shadow editon
There are some extraordinary circumstances where cars have been developed outside the manufacturing circle in a limited partnership with that said manufacturer (Chevrolet in this case), that have gained legendary status. Unlike some of the many Chevrolet dealerships marketing specialty cars, only a very small fraction would ever gain the recognition in the collector's market. These exceptions include the Don Yenko's dealership performance transformations and even the Baldwin-Motion specialty cars.
While not an official off the shelf Chevrolet option available at any dealership, they are recognised as official collectibles with roots running almost as deep as any other collectible Camaro. Sometimes even more.
This is obviously not the case for this non-existant Shadow car (as offered by Chevrolet or a dealership or otherwise).

Re: 1985 camaro shadow editon
AFAIK the Yenko camaros were all converted at Yenko Chevrolet, and then the stripes were added etc... They were all aftermarket ( from a certain point of view ). Not dis similar to the last 5 or so 92 Firehawks which were converted without the B4U RPO, but they are still considered part of the production run....
One of the only special conversions like the Yenko camaro for the 3rd gens that come to mind is the Mecham Trans Am or MSE where you could have opted for a 400SBC... (other than the Firehawks obvisouly by SLP) Beyond that almost everything was a cosmetic change like the Bandit II cars, or the Camaro SS by Choo Choo customs, the Knudsen cars like the Togan...
