Re: Camaro owned by dodge?
Never happened.
However, Chevrolet DID license the "IROC" name from the people it belongs to, the International Race Of Champions; and were entitled to use it on cars for the run of the contract. The contract ran out at the end of 1989. Chevrolet decided not to renew it, because they saw little to no point in paying out the wahzoo on a racing series where all they got to race was other identical Chevrolets. Not much marketing punch there, when sure, a Chevy won; but 11 others also lost. So the last IROC Camaros were 90 models, built in the first half of the 90 model year. By that time however, the name "IROC" as a car model, was thoroughly entrenched in the mind of the public.
Dodge licensed the name next, and used it for a year or 2 on some little FWD POS that they were making. People laughed. Didn't last too long.
No high-profile car co. sponsor has appeared for IROC since then. They've been running 4th gen Firebirds for the last few years, with no auto mfr brand identification whatsoever on the cars. Not that they're actually "Firebirds"; they're full tube-chassis NASCAR type race cars, merely with Firebird-resembling sheet metal stuck on them. Pretty funny that they're using a body that's been out of production for all these years. And as is of course typical of them, Pontiac has not ACTUALLY participated in that race series at all, as a manufacturer; AFAIK IROC has just been buying the bodywork from them as a customer. Ironically, Pontiac has a history of naming their cars after speed and racing activities they have no connection with: LeMans, Grand Prix, Trans Am, Can Am, Bonneville, to name a few that come right to the top of my mind; while not using their connections to the extremely few forms of motorsports that they actually DID participate in (NASCAR specifically).
That's probably the series of events that got garbled.

Damn funny though.
Actually, I'd be surprised if Chrysler(Dodge) could afford to buy anything in the '70's! They were so financially screwed-up back then that it took Lee Iacocca in the early 80's to completely rebuild the company and his little hot selling K-Car (remember those?) to rescue the almost bankrupt company.
Dodge almost didn't exist anymore!!!
PS; Here's a pic of the fancy shmancy Dodge Iroc . . .

rescue? not even with all that work... it still needed the gov. to step in twice and hand over a "loan" to keep there heads just above water. see the funny thing with dodge is they make a car/truck every once in awhile that with the built up tv glamor sell ok. and you think alright they are getting going again and then bam! trouble there slipping off the cliff and it all starts over again.
GM just has dumb luck. take there selling of the investments and companys they owned. GMAC to show a good one. they get out of this just in time for interest rates to rise and the housing to fall flat on it's face with people in the mortgages forclosing at all time highs

actually the real name was the "hondaroc" only available in japan from 86-87 on the civic. the engine was the 1.3l quadra-charged stroker with 6 over head cams and also came with an optional 5" 6 pipe exhaust.

The first Irocs were Porsches

Porsche doesn't own the Camaro or Dodge name
But Mercedes Benz did own the Dodge name

Re: Camaro owned by dodge?
These were 224hp cars that weighed 3100 lbs. Even the ad for the Spirit back then(1991) claimed it was the most HP ever produced from Dodge per cubic inch.
The R/T cars were no slouches for sure. The regular IROC Daytona's though were just run of the mill 3.0 V6's.
