90 iroc 350 worth getting?
Last week I was on craig's list, and i found a locally owned 90 iroc 350. To make a long story short, I bought it. It is in rough shape (faded paint, dented driver's side fender, blown motor, leather interior is rough) but everything is there, and other than the dented fender i cant find another ding on it!
I picked it up for $950 because i always anted an iroc, and 90 had low production numbers. I ust want to find out what other f-body owners think about my purchase.

I think you got ripped off on the price cause a car in that condition and with a blown motor is never worth more than $500.

If a shell goes for $2500, then my $2800 clean IROC must have been stolen.
Yea, blown engine you got ripped. You could have probably netted a running car for only a couple hundred bucks more. But you deal with what you can find. Gonna rebuild the engine?

The value of a rolling chassis varies WIDELY from place to place.
In the northeast and midwest, finding one without rust is kind of tough. A good roller can be worth quite a bit.
In the south and west, where they don't rust, they're not worth as much.
Doesn't seem either too outrageous, or like a real great deal. Kind of near market value for where you are, looks like to me.

IMO if its clean you got a deal. Go on ebay, try and find a 90 IROC, they're very hard to find. Yes in the midwest rust free cars bring good money. I just sold an 85 camaro, cloned to look like a 84 Z28 w/ no motor, no trans, plain steel wheels w/ bad tires, a red interior, cracked windshield and mis matched parts for $705. IMO it wasnt worth $200.

Re: 90 iroc 350 worth getting?
I have seen plenty of third gen cars for sale over the past three years, many in great shape and many in non-running condtion. All the running ones were overpriced or v6 crap, and all the non-running ones were nothing special (regular camaros and firebirds) and the owners still wouldn't give them up for less than a grand!
I found this car locally on craig's list and replied to the owner about fifteen minutes after he posted the ad. He knew it was a low production year bout and knew it was somewhat rare... because of that, he initially wanted more, but after we talked about our similar interests in third gen f bodys he cut me a better deal.

Re: 90 iroc 350 worth getting?
It is hard to say whether that is a good deal or not for sure. Because really, prices very by area. A rust free, Camaro, with a blown motor in Arizona might be a dime a dozen, so $950.00 would be too much, but here in Michigan, a rust free Camaro with a blown motor would be a pretty good deal.
Now, based on how you described the car, here in Michigan I think that would have been an ok price for it. I wouldn’t have considered it a rip off for sure.
If you had paid $600.00 for it then I would say you truly got a deal.
But I think you paid an ok price either way
I wouldn’t worry too much about it though, as long as you are happy with it, you got a good price. There will always be a joker that says, I got a mint condition car with a rebuilt motor for $200.00. The truth is, you level know if what they say is total BS or not.
So enjoy your new ride, and congrats on your purchase, let us know how the project turns out.

If its what you wanted then no you didnt get hurt on price. Another thing to consider 90 was the last year the z cars wore iroc badging. From all the articles ive read these irocs will be worth a little more due to that reason. So dont worry you did good and post some pics.

Re: 90 iroc 350 worth getting?
Stock heads and TPI won't flow nearly enough air for a 383. I TOTALLY understand budget builds, but I wouldn't spend the money for the 383 only to put those back on. Getcha a good priced 350 shortblock, they're a dime a dozen, and put whatever will transfer from the old motor on it.

I ask because I'm starting my build this summer...
