Need help with a strange 1982 Camaro
Need help with a strange 1982 Camaro
Hi
A man who lived up the road from me had a very strange 82 Camaro. It had a factory cowl hood, a very strange back bumper that hung down quite low and came out at the bottom. It was a crossfire injection, had 15" Z28 wheels, and the sticker on the door said it was made in late 1981. It had disc brakes in the rear with a cone style posi. The interior was the multicolored type with Camaro written over and over on it. The car had one of the 91-92 style rear deck spoilers on it, but I believe that was added later. All of the sudden the guy decided to sell the car for parts, and a guy down the road bought it. I got the rear bumper and ground effects from him, as well as the rear spolier. The posi and rear end were in pretty bad shape, not sure what he ever did with it. The rest of the car he quickly junked and I never got a real good look at the stickers or VIN. The rest of the ground effects on the car were normal 82-84 style as I recall. Does anyone know anything about this car? I think it might have been some sort of prototype.
Thanks

That's the only kind of 3rd gen prototype i could find that had anything like what you talked about, though it's far from an 82, much closer to 92.

Re: Need help with a strange 1982 Camaro
Here are some pictures of the rear bumper I got from the car in question. It looks rougher in the pics than it really is, and yes that is a hole, the guy before said that the exhaust melted a hole though it. Just for comparison the rear quarter gfx attached to the bumper are about 2 inches taller than that of the 85-90 style, so it seems so strange for a 1982. AS well as the Z28 logo on the bumper.
I would really appreciate any help solving this mystery guys.

That is the normal '82 rear bumper with aftermarket ground effects on it. There were a few different companies that made them. I think that may be a set of A&A ground effects.

It was just a bunch of varous parts that were added to the car. The interior for example, was from a '83-'85 car with the Conteur option. When you say "original cowl hood", do you mean it was factory fiberglass with two little flaps that that open up? If so, that was on all the '82-'83 Crossfire Z28's.
Re: Need help with a strange 1982 Camaro
The hood had a 1 1/2 or 2" high cowl in it. It looked perfect on the car and I have never seen one like it since, but I can't remember what it was made of. My friend still has the cowl they cut out of the hood, so I will get more info about it. I have one of the fiberglass z28 hoods sitting in my building right now, lol. Also, someone said that it was just a noraml back bumper with a body kit piece moulded into it, but it is one solid piece. I usually mold pieces together to see how they look, and there is always some sign that it was done, usually very obvious, this one has no signs at all.
Thanks again
