Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

I was thinking mine would be in the 15-20% range with L69 and 5-speed.

Just FYI I used to have an '84 L69 automatic and it DID have 3.73 gears. I believe it was RPO G92. It's listed in tech data on homepage of TGO too.

Mine may be going up for sale if the price is right...5 person family can't do much in a fun car with only 4 seatbelts! Lol

So are you saying that out of the 13,xxx made in 1989, most 350's were GTA's and TA's? Any further breakdown info?

Just curious, as I just bought a 89 Formy 350 with T tops, 65k, original and unmolested, but has had exhaust replaced with Flowmaster. I thought they were more common than not.

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

I have seen an unconfirmed number of about 1000 - 1300 Formula 350's with T-tops for 1989... the 91 & 92 is closer to 200/ year Formula 350/T-tops.

I do not remember the final number off the top of my head for the Formula 350's in 1989 If I even know it.

All I know is about 43 Formula 350 Convertibles in 1989...

Keep in mind only 1989, 1991 & 1992 are the only 3 years you could get a Formula, 350 & T-tops. 1987, 1988 & 1990 No Formula 350/T-top cars

I think the 3.73 was for the Manual, and 84 L69 used 3.42 was for the Automatic, I would like to see something to the contrary, I could be wrong, but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

the number of silver IROC-Z's produced may not be available. However take a look at the Camaro White book, it would give you the total number of Silver cars, and whether or not the IROC Z was the only car to get the color, which might be possible.. I don't have the WB here or I would look it up for you.

I assume you have an 83, or are looking to buy one.

The best you will find for 83 is a Daytona Trans Am, nothing more than a sticker package and some ground effects, which was in turn used on most 1984 Trans Ams

The Camaro (as in your question) nothing spectacular comes to mind off the top of my head, 84 had the Olympic Edition, which again was a sticker package, the 82 had the INDY, The best thing you can hope for is the HO engine, which IMHO is superior to the Cross fire, just because of reliability.

The other day i picked up a 83 Camaro for like $350 it is a Brown Berlinetta with gold trim and on the doors it had limited edition on it so i was just curious if theres anything special about it it also has only 26,000 original miles.

None that I ever saw back in the day. Some dealers added tape that said it to try to pass off a less stocked car as a Limited Edition

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

Chances of it being a 26,000 mile car... slim... more than likely 126,000... never know, but it seems awful cheep for a low miles car...

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

Could be then, just seems low. If so great find...

I am by no means a Camaro expert, but I believe that the 6 Cyl was standard in the Beryl, and the 4 cyl was a credit option, and the LG4 5.0 was an up-charge option in 1983. The Beryl was more of a luxury model, less interested in speed than refinements. Some years they had a unique dash, with a unique radio tower in the center console. The turn signal leaver/switch was not on the steering column, but on the dash itself. I believe they also got special (added) insulation for sound.

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

My 1986 Firebird Trans Am would probably come under the "Desirable" category. I'm a Aussie and the car was converted in 1991 to right hand drive. She's original black & gold with gold 15" x 7" cast wheels (N90), 75,000 original miles, 305 Quadrajet (LG4), 5 speed manual (M39), 3.27 (GW6) Posi (9 bolt G80), 4 wheel discs (J65), dealer added WS6 package with 36mm front sway bar, 24mm rear etc.. Has "Limited Edition" on the door handles, power everything including hatch, even rear vision mirror! It also has C&C T Tops. Has a new dual 3" exhaust set up, i have got new headers to put on soon that came with it. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, it sure does attract attention. I love it

I think it would be fun to have a RH drive car here in the States... might not be practical for us, but it might turn some heads...

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

Thanks! You have a nice car as well. I have all the registration papers (titles) from the original owner from the U.S and from the other 3 owners from Australia plus lots of receipts. The original owner (from L.A California) moved out to Australia (only a 20 minute drive from where i live!) and then shipped his car out here and converted it to RHD (cost $8500 to convert!) in 1991 (i have receipts for $32,000). On the VIN label it has "Pontiac Greenback Firebird" and even comes with a user manual titled "Greenback Firebird". I have taken friends for a drive and they can't believe it only has a 305 under the hood, the previous owner built engines for race/drag cars so maybe he's tinkered with it. Just looking forward to summer, it's freezing here and i want to take those T Tops off! Cheers

Is there any information on paint color production numbers through the years? E.G. How many Ultra Blue Metallic cars for 1991, etc?

I had the same car, only a 1984 model. Mine was white with black graphics along the rockers and it had blue interior. Same drivetrain. It also had t-tops. It was only a few years old when I had it though...man I loved that car. It was FAST, too. (Fast for a 305-powered car anyway...lol)

depends on mileage.. hate to say.. but if she can be made to stock always better if you want to have a show queen. and value wise... but you will NEVER get out of it what you put into it.

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

You seem to have all of the numbers and information. Can you tell me how many 1989 Formulas were built with the LB9 5.0L TPI, MM5 5 speed manual transmission, N10 dual exhaust combination? I have read articles stating less than 50 and I have read arguments and discussions stating over 2000. I special ordered one in December 1988 and sold it 5 years later. I have kicked myself in the butt since then for letting it go and have kept an eye out for another one for the last 10 years. I finally found another one in the same colors (bright red on grey) in original condition, so I bought it. The only thing missing from my original is the T-tops, but I was willing to sacrifice that option. Just curious what the correct production numbers are. Thanks for your help.

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

As cool as it would seem 50 is a neat number... I hear that same 350 number about the GTA 350's as well...

My hunch would be around 500-800 or so TPI/MM5 Formulas/Trans Ams or GTA's were made

Thanks OKFOZ. At the beginning of this thread, you have some pretty solid numbers on a lot of different combinations. Is there any way to find out an exact number of Formulas with TPI/MM5?

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

Unfortunately no, not for 1989 Firebirds at least... All I can get you is the number of
MM5 - 8,495 (Wards)
LB9 - 6,478 (PHS)

The Camaros you can sometimes deduce things from the numbers, but there are no solid numbers for Firebirds...

Keep in mind that after a certain point in 1989, ALL Formula LB9/MM5 got the N10 dual cats, Also ALL Formula LB9/MM5 got the 3.42 or 3.45 axle depending on year in the US.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will just have to love the car no matter how many others there are out there like it!

Why is paint code 9188 not on the list?

Because a color may increase desirability, but it would not typically make a break a sale to someone that is otherwise looking for a 1LE, convertible, Firehawk, TTA (might hurt there), 350 or other option.

Also there are no other special colors mentioned in the list. Other than for reference, I do not think I called out any particular color. Otherwise I would have had to included the 700 Yellow Formula's in 1988, or the 2 Copper cars in 1986 or whenever.. It is not the intent of the thread... I would not be against you going through 11 years of information and compile how many of each color car there was and organize it into a new thread, go for it... I would strongly recommend you include Firebirds in your list, otherwise it would not be complete IMHO.

Damn - that ain't rare at all! So where are they all now?

If I didn't know better I'd think that was for G80 & not G92.

Edit - you sure about those numbers Scott? Not to question you but how did they drop to only a few hundred units in 89 & 90?

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

Scott was only half right, they only show 5252 G92 cars in 1988... He was looking at the G80.

For production it appears that 1988 was kind of a low year for G92.

I will say that on the Camaro it was not an expensive option, only $20 or so...

Hey. My eyes aren't what they used to be. I tried following the line item, but I guess my eyes drifted up to G80. You're correct. The 5252 is correct for the 1988 count.

I guess you have to learn that us old farts need to use paper under the line to make sure it all lines up...

I wanted to check in here to let you know that the gentleman in Scottsdale, AZ who bought my Black 1989 Carroll Supercharged 350 VHO also now owns the Red 1988 Carroll Supercharged 350 VHO. He has the only two left. Amazing!

Thought you guys would like to know this.

Re: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable?"

I think that at this point in time, a mint original condition, low mileaged, fully documented car that may not have been so rare when it was first manufactured can now be more rare and desirable than a wrecked or beat up car that was produced in limited quantities. So many 3rd gens have been wrecked or mutilated, that a clean original car is rare and desirable to some degree no matter what trim level or model it is. A few years back, you could go to any local junkyard and still see multiple 3rd gens, now that is not the case. I have been going to local wrecking yards for the past few months, and several did not have even one 3rd gen. If there's 2 or more, that is shocking now. Another consideration is originality. A mint stock car, or a restored to factory specs using NOS and original GM parts also increases the value and desirability of any given 3rd gen. So many considerations...!!!

in 1990-1992 AFAIK the G92 was NA with CC1 (Don't confuse this with the Firebird R6P)

1991
5 Speed TPI (MK6): 1,112 (Compnine number is about 5% or so low)
