Re: How old are you?
I am 17 and bought my car a little over a year ago. It was about a month after I got my license. My car has come a long way in a year... everything non-stock I have payed for and installed myself... ok my dad helped install some of it... but I paid for everything and in a sense I paid him too. He got free dinners at the local burger joint/cruise-in for the whole summer.
The last part is mostly payment for helping me swap radiators since mine decide to dump all its contents on the garage floor the night before a race. Of course everyone was closed so we had to make a bunch of phone calls and convince a place to open at 5:00 AM so we could swap it out in the morning and get to the race in one piece and on time... now that was a true miracle!

Re: How old are you?
I'm 17 and will be 18 on the 24th I bought my camaro last may and it is my first car, I had to buy a grand am for a winter beater. I plan to keep this car for the rest of my life and plan on putting in a 383, but want it to look stock from the exterior to make it a sleeper. I've got a few things to do to it before getting it back out this spring, such as heater core, differential, ball joints, window motors, replace all the weatherstripping, door hinges...

Now 23. Paid $750 for a 1985 firebird (the year i was born of course) when i was 16. rolled it coming home late. Bought another w/out an engine or trans. put the 2.8 from the one i rolled into the new one (1985 firebird se t-top). a few days ago i bought a 400 sbc with a 350turbo to put in it. hope to get going and have it complete before summer so i can drive it to church only on sundays...or raise some hell with it...we'll see which one comes first.

Im currently 22. Have owned my car for three years (already?). I will be graduating soon so I can finally start to restore it. Not that it needs it but I was thinking what if GM built a Formula 350 Player's Challenge car

Re: How old are you?
52 until March. My current Trans AM is the 4th thirdgen, all T/A's. Bought the first one new, a 1983 WS7 T-top on New Years Day 1983. Bought it from Griner Chevrolet Pontiac in Quitman Georgia. They had to move two cars to get it out of the show room. It was in the middle of the showroom with 7 miles on the odometer. Sticker was 15,758.00. The dealership is still there, only three miles down the road. I traded a 79 Colony Park nine passenger wagon in on it. We had bought a new custom van in 1982, and did not need two kid haulers. I was 27 when I bought the first thirdgen, married with two kids, and the days of modifying cars were over by that time.

I'll be the BIG 30 in a few days-2-2-79. I had a '79 Trans Am. That was neat, having a car the same age. Now, I just have the '89 RS. After grad school I'll add a few more to the collection.

Re: How old are you?
Born in '57 = 51, seems like quite a few of us Geezers still own Third Gens.
Most of Us started with 1st gens and 2nd gens I would think. we were all old enough to purchase 2nd Gens new. Then we all remember when the first IROCS came out. Still love those cars!
The first gens were cool, had some nice motors, cool options but lacked on handling,
The 2nd Gens were nice, handled well, but the interiors were a let down as well as the low-po motors near the end, they went through quite a transformation from 70-1/2 to 81.
The 82s were cool but it took me until about 84 to really start to like them, the IROCs had the big wheels, handled great, TPI injection and really sweet interiors.

Re: How old are you?
I had a 79 Trans AM WS6, bought used in 1980 with less then 10K on the odometer. Black, T-tops, 4 speed. Beautiful car! I know that people consider them classics now, but to me the car suffered from poor quality. The 83 actually seemed to be built better then the 79. The fit and finish was better on the 3rd gen.

Im 29, had my car since I was 17. I bought her for $5700. with 57,000 on her. I am the car's 3rd owner it originally came out of W.Virginia orginal owner was a woman and the the second owner was also a lady, that got rid of it due to her and her husband expecting their first child. The car was completely original down to the wires and plugs. Of course some things have changed since then but it has been a great car with only minor maintenance issues.

Re: How old are you?
Im 42 and here's my story:
A friend of mine was spoiled in high school (20+ yrs ago) and got a brand new 1984 Z28 fully loaded including T-Tops and it was even red. I loved that car and loved driving around with him, T-Tops off and cruising around town. I ended up wanting a 3rd gen so bad that I even went and got a job at Mcdonalds during my senior year!! I never got the camaro way back then but in 1998 purchased my first IROC. I only had that care for about 10 months and then had an overheat which caused me to lose a piston. I loved the car but needed something more reliable and traded it in...Always regretted that--I should have just held onto it and put another engine in.
Fast forward 10 yrs and here we are again--I missed my IROC and decided if I was going to get another it was going to have to be now since the prices on the nice ones are going up daily (it seems). Wanted one for the nice days when I get take the tops off and cruise around town. I kinda feel like a kid again!!

Re: How old are you?
Funny, got back into cars about 4 yrs ago and it's like being 16 all over again! Bought an 87 IROC in 04 painted it, some nice lady pulled out and totaled it! So I bought a clean 91 Z28 body and started the transformation. Mid-life crisis? Naaaaaa! Just a great way of life!!!!

Re: How old are you?
25 with 20 years experience here (45 ) and didn't drive my first Chevy until I was days away from my 40th birthday. Now I've owned five F-Bodies and still have four of them -- three are third gens.
1987 Camaro Z28
1992 Trans Am WS6 Vert
1992 Trans Am Vert
2000 Trans Am LS1 6M (my rocket!)
And sold a '99 Camaro 6CYL a few years ago.
And I also traded my '06 Eddie Bauer Expedition in a few years ago and now have a '99 Silverado Z71 Extended Cab...
I am definitely a Ford Girl Gone VERY Bad...

Re: How old are you?
well i have posted on this thread and nobody has claimed to be older than me . several have come close , several are "NAM" vets ( as am i , 25 mos. in S.E. asia ) can i lay claim to being the oldest grearhead on here ??? love that young people have the same interest , i have tried to pass on interest to family gearheads . anyway i think it's great that we all have a common goal/interest . anyone older ???
