Re: How old are you?
34 here, I'm on my second 3rd Gen, a bright red 92 305 RS. I've had a couple of years, bought her for 2500 with about 95,000 on her. My first F body was an white 86 Berlinetta I bought when I lived in Watertown NY for 2500 (Same as I paid for my 92), I had her for 10 years and almost 300,000 miles before the transmission went and the the engine was on its last leg (did I mention it was a 2.8 V6) got a lot of good years out of her. Traded it for a dirt bike that I never did ride and eventually gave to my cousin, some old guy wanted to fix her up, and at that point she needed a new home and someone that had the time and the money to fix her up, that was about 5 years ago now, good memories!!

Re: How old are you?
Uncle Tom, good to hear you are still chasing the ladies. Pretty good for an old phart. I`m 58 and I have to say my `88 Iroc is the best car I`ve had since I bought my `69 Road Runner new in `69 for $3300. I turned down a `57 Vette for $300 just before I bought the Mopar.

Re: How old are you?
Except I never bought that car. Right now I have a 1988 Isuzu P'up borrowed from a friend. I decided to back out at the last second, and am glad I did, cause now I'm unemployed.
But no worries, I'm sure I'd have rather had a third gen anyway.

I'm 55 and also interested in keeping mine all originial. I aquired a 1984 Firebird SE from the originial owner. It's got the L69 and 700R trani. It came from the dealer with chrome wire spoke wheels and called it an LE. I don't think that was a factory option. Enjoy your car and have fun.

Re: How old are you?
22 checking in here. Just bought my first third gen after a two year search. I refused to buy anything that wasnt a V8, ttopped, and 5 speed. They are hard to find! Shes going to hit the paint shop next week, then working on an interior upgrade..then a new motor. Leaning towards a 350 swap, (Currently have a 305) ..but am keeping options open.

Re: How old are you?
Im 18. Bought my 86' Firebird S/E when I was 15 for $400. I brought it back to life, and finished the previous owners attempt to transform it into a Trans Am. Now I am in the process of swapping in a 400 SBC & TH400. I plan to run high 11s, which will be just fine with me seeing as its my first build.
About 2 months ago I bought my second Thirdgen. Picked up a Purple w/ Silver Ground Effects 85' Trans Am for $300. Plans are to swap in a mildly built L69 (H.O. 305) in place of the 305 in there now.
Last week I bought my third Thirdgen lol. Picked up an 84' Notchback Trans Am parts car for $200. It was missing the front clip and tranny, but Im using alot of the parts on my 85', and some on my 86'. This is where Im getting the H.O. 305 from.

Re: How old are you?
Wow, you guys are making me feel old. Will turn 60 in a week. Of the responders only Uncle Tom is older. When I hang around guys at shows I don't feel any older than they are. First Camaro, '70 Z/28 that I converted to RS trim. Second F-body, '69 Firebird 350 convert that I still own (18 years) changed from automatic to 4-spd and then to 5-spd. Did all the mechanical myself. First 3rd gen, '85 IROC L69 5spd. Added PBR rear, 145 speedo, overhead consoul and changed acdcent color from gold to dark charcoal. Like to keep my cars looking stock but change them to my taste. Still own the IROC. Good to see a lot of "young blood" in this hobby that I love.

Re: How old are you?
I am 48, started drag racing when I was 16. Started with a 71 Chevelle went on to owning three 67 Camaro's and two 68 Camaro's. First Camaro was a 67 that I ran as A/MP. Then went to a A Dragster and ran that for 5 years before I quit, fastes time I ran was 7.18 at 199MPH in the 1/4.
My bud had bought one of the first 3rd off the production line ( GM engineer). Went I decided to build a car again I wanted a camaro, it came down to 70 1/2 split bumper or a 3rd gen IROC. I guess you know what I bought.
I always liked the pro street look, even though we did not call it pro street in my day, just narrowed rear end with the biggest tires you could find, and the most horsepower you could buy under the hood

Re: How old are you?
38 here. ive owned a 91 v-6, an 85 trans-am. both gone and then bought a 91 305 5spd in 2001. over the years i bought and resotroed an 85 iroc, several parts cars, then recently bought an 88 iroc vert. i stil have the 91 305 and vert. i have a large collection of tech articles on third gens as well as restoration and repair books. i even still have the 85 tech manual. i also have a large storage unit full of parts.
ive been a fan of the third gens since my teenage years. that was in the 80's. ill alway have my 91 and plan to keep the vert when restored.

Re: How old are you?
Another Youngen at 21.
Bought my 89 in 2006 when I was 18. Started removing things I didnt want like exhaust, intake, battery things like that.
Now 3 years later and still only been driven 3 miles since I bought her (did I mention this is my first car, still not being able to drive her yet) I am hoping she comes out or at least is started and ran for a while this summer.
Still need a good 2-3k before she is running how I want her to be.

I am 31 now and I got my first 3rd gen in 2006. It's an 1989 Z28 (not sure if it's an IROC or not, it doesn't have any IROC emblems just Z28), TBI, 5.0.
Just bought a 1988 IROC-Z last week. So now I am looking to get rid of the 1989. Boy I really, really like 3rd Gens. Their body styles are off the heezy!

The best way to tell if the car is an "authentic" IROC-Z is to look at the VIN number and, most importantly, the RPO codes (granted the "faker" didn't swap out the center console with a real IROC-Z, then you would have to decode all of the numbers and figure out if the vehicle is indeed an IROC.) Just like the Z-28's, all IROC-Zs came with black painted headlight inserts. But not like Z-28's, the IROC-Z's ground effects were the same color as the body, versus the two tone paint schemes of the Z-28.

Re: How old are you?
I turn 20 in two weeks. I have had my 92' Z03 RS since I was 14 (my aunt bought it new back in the day). It was obviously my first car and I drove it daily for about two years until I bought my dads 00' 2dr Grand Prix GT. The GP is now deceased after I did cart-wheels with it down a dark winding road back in february. I could take up driving the 92' again but Im giving it the resepect it deserves and leaving it in the garage for weekends and cruise-ins. Now I'm obviously in the market for a new car and I can't make my damn mind up on a bird or camaro 3rd or 4th gen. It's so hard to make my mind up....

I had my first third gen in 1990, it was an '85 Z 28, I had to sell it before I lost my license or my life (or as I said: 90 mph speedo, my A$$, should of had a 200 mph speedo instead - at 90 it was nothing BUT GO from there to redline !!)
My current third gen is an '88 with the 2.8 liter 6 (and gets 32mpg!) with T-Tops, AT. I need to get busy and get the rear axel seals & berings done, then the interior needs to be replaced, two small dents in the driver door, a nice stereo system and I'm good to go once again !!

Re: How old are you?
I am 19 and I still got it haha
Wanted a T/A since I was 6 and looked around when I was 15 but couldn't find one in my price range. Ended up with a 1991 Grand Prix GTP and though it was a Pontiac it was no Trans Am. I went through some Dodge Truck and then finally, Canada Day when I was 18 (last year) I went to Calgary and bought my 1990 GTA. Never looked back!

Re: How old are you?
18 years old.
Got my first third gen at 17 (not my first vehicle, but my first car... I'm a truck guy still).
1987 IROC-Z (T-Top), mild 305, 100 shot, 700R4 trans is what my dad and I ended up building. Going to be building a stroker eventually for it and changing to a TH350.
Just recently picked up a solid roof 1986 Berlinetta (V6 on title) for $350... no rust at all! Previous owner swapped in a 305 with double hump heads and a TH-350 with a shift kit. Planned on dropping a 402 into the car but now I find myself wrenching together a 350; mild cam, 305 hump heads, and an airgap manifold. Got a disc brake rear, posi with 4.10s to put into it. It's being set up for 106 octane fuel and we are shooting for the low to mid 12 second range. Making a Z28 clone , flat blacking the car with spray paint, and gutting the interior.
And I have a 1982 Z28 Pace Car edition Camaro that I am using for a parts car for my camaros and my friend's camaro... wasn't worth restoring it without the title.
Edit:
My third gens are a hobby, the IROC has license plates because it is a father-son project. The '86 is strictly going to be a track car for now and a learning experience for me to build the car on my own... not to mention it's fun to build. Girlfriend is slowly gaining an interest in drag racing (watching me atleast, she's been asking to go to the track); big influence on building the 1986... might make that 12 second car into a 11 second car with some nitrous and rebuild the motor after this season to handle the juice. Not to mention their's other chicks and even guy friends that want to help out with the build and learn how to build a real machine.
I would never consider a third gen to be used as a daily driver. I don't want to get into an argument, but if I were to build a real drag car (10 second or faster) I would not use a third gen. They are stylish cars, they handle great, they look good, but they are not the strongest car (structure wise).

Re: How old are you?
I got my 85 z28 when i was 17 and im now 22. I also like stock but my imagination kind of took over after awhile. The car sat for about 3 years. I took it out of storage when i bought a parts car a few months ago. Im currentley welding in the floors out of the parts car. That will be followed quickly by black paint with a flat clear and some shiny clear on the black flames that are goin on the front. I just put headers on it and am trying to round up a cam lifters heads intake and 4bbl. I also have a full black and blue interior in my basment(instead of brown). Its a work in progress.
