hello i have a Q about 1LE
hello i have a Q about 1LE
hello all, i am a noob here, i have the oportunity to purchase a 1989 camaro with the 1LE option, aswell as the other options that the 1LE deletes, like A/C and the bose stereo, power windows, ect the car is all original with 125,000 miles on it. i have a procharger in my garage and have been looking for a fourth gen LT1 or LS1 to blow and build, but this one has cought my eye. for the most part a like the 3rd gens but i don't like the fact that i cant get a "regular" one with a V8 and a manual. what i am asking is, what is this car worth and would it be a good car to build up or would i want to leave it all stock and hold on to it? could this be a collectible? i know they made 111 of them, that seems rare to me but like i said i am a noob..so what do i know.
thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: hello i have a Q about 1LE
Collectible? Yes! Is it original numbers matching? Rust? Does it have a cage (or did it?). ...you will see holes in the interior panels or from under the car.
Since it has power doo-dads its probably a Players car (RPO code R7U.?). The 89's also have 1LE.
There's a sticky post at the top of the History and Restoration thread and you can go to: www.playerschallengeseries.ca for more info.
IMO you should keep it original or you might as well buy a run of the mill third gen to modify. Only 76 of the 111 were players cars.
Good find!

1LE cars could be had with alot of options except AC.
It's a myth they were all or had to be, stripper cars.

Re: hello i have a Q about 1LE
there is very little rust on the car, and we are in the PNW. there is a scratch/ ding above the letf headlights. i couldn't tell if it ever had a roll cage, i didn't know to look either. where did the cage come down in the rear? flat on the deck or on the "shoulders" on the sides of the deck?
its is all numbers matching.

Nice find! Be sure to post pics.
I agree with t_towner, this is too rare of a car to modify. You can always find a more commonly equipped IROC to hop up.

You haven't really given us enough to put a price on it. Original paint? Original drivetrain? Was it raced and if so, by whom? How bad really is the rust? Owner documentation? Does it have R7U?
I'd say $2,500 to $7,500ish is the range.

Re: hello i have a Q about 1LE
I don't see 1LE thus it can't be a 1LE, looks like a LB9, 5 speed Iroc with performance suspension options as well as G92. Otherwise it would have to have 1LE on that sticker to be a true 1LE car.

A LB9 305 TPI, 5-speed, G92 car is still one of the more desirable of the non-special or limited production 3rd-gens. I wouldn't do any mods that can't be easily reversed. It's going to be one of the 3rd-gens that is worth some money in the future. Clean low mileage examples with those options are already bringing pretty good money.

Re: hello i have a Q about 1LE
Does it even have the big front brakes.Thats the first thing to look for.Judgeing by that pic i say no.Two options would cause some major 1LE features to be deleted by GM.One was AC the other was fog lamps. Many buyers marked the 1LE option(or G92) on the order sheet & then f#*ked themselves out of a true 1LE by optioning AC &/or fog lamps. All other options would not cause this.

I don't see the 1le or au4 players code, so I don't think it was a player's car,but nice car anyways. It also has the fog lamps in it, on a 1le they were deleted.

Re: hello i have a Q about 1LE
Unfortunately it is not a 1LE, however it appears to be a nicely equipped IROC. It does have the Go-fast goodies like the JG1 (Alum Drive shaft) and the G92 Performance Axel, with Posi, 3.45 Ratio etc.
The biggest difference between the 1LE and non-1LE car is the 1LE got the Larger FRONT brakes (1989+) and they got a special Gas tank that had baffles so that the pump would not go dry as fast, basically it allowed the car to suck more fuel from the tank. 1LE's also got special Struts and shocks, Pretty much about it.
1LE's are really cool cars, I think some of them had special spec'd engines, probably extra attention to fit, and balance. Beyond that they are not significantly faster than a regular non-1LE car if you pulled the parts from a non-1LE and make them weigh the same performance would be very similar.
I hope that helps...
