87 350 IROC with NO power options!

I have the chance to buy a 49k mile original '87 IROC 350. The only options it appears to have are AC and an AM/FM radio (which may have been standard). I've seen the SPID sheet, and its a genuine car...the owner has all the original paperwork save for the window sticker.

I've never seen another crank window, manual lock 350 car ever. Obviously they had the ability to be built this way, but how many of you have ever seen one? I haven't...debating if after all this time I may have FINALLY found my ellusive 350 IROC. I do admit that the lack of power goodies and t-tops turns me off a little bit, but the condition is immaculate and the reality is that the car is going to be a garage queen anyway...the RS is the Summer driver.

I'm interested to hear other's thoughts and opinions...weird car!

You don't see very many no option 350 cars , I had a 90 350 iroc that was the same way . I would say get it and enjoy not having to replace any electical motors that a loaded car would have , and no t tops is a plus , no leaks .

Sounds like its too good a car to pass on anyway! Personally I like low option cars, when it comes to comfort options I mean. My Nova is an original heater/radio delete 4spd. SS and my Formula has crank windows, push locks with AC like the iroc your lookin into does.

Weird cars are hard to come by when your talkin third-gens, not like older cars where each option was individually added ya know.

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

I'd definitely buy it. I guess I'm one of those crazy people who would actually pay extra to get fewer options on one of these cars, especially if it is just an occasional driver/show car. The "worry free" nature of my relatively stripped 1LE is one of the things I like best about it. Manual windows, manual locks, manual seats, no cruise control, no AC. Relatively lightweight and best of all, nothing to break.

For a daily driver I would need AC, but could do without just about everything else.

Thats actually cool to me. The less electrical crap means less headaches. I would buy it dude. Plus thats kinda rare considering its an IROC.

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

I worked with a guy back in the day (over 20 years ago) that ordered an '86 IROC with a 305, no A/C, no power locks, no power windows; pretty much stripped.

He installed the SLP package; headers, cat-back, cold air kit, chip. He didn't believe me when I told him the SLP heads wouldn't fit a 305. He ended up getting a 350 short block and installing that.

He sold the car years ago. I saw it again recently. It's pretty beat to crap. An old Hispanic woman was driving it.

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

There was a 1988 Formula 350 in the Orange MEtallic locally, I almost bought it. The only options it had was A/C, cassette radio w/eq and power antenna... 70K miles...

It was pretty nice, but it had been repaired, I could tell by the color of the fenders in comparison to the Doors...

$3400 and it was mine I thought about it one day too long.

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

I ordered my '89 Formula 350 the same way. It was a real PIA. Dealers didn't like to do it, so it was one rare bird. Only options I ordered were cassette, A/C, and 2 tone (exterior) color delete. You'll NEVER have to replace a power window motor. Since my '82 T/A also had manual windows, I was already in the habit of reaching across the console to put the passenger's window down. Another advantage, everytime it rains, you don't have find the keys before being able to roll the windows up. I say go for it, you'll be glad you did.

My 85-z only has cruise and am/fm raido. No power windows, locks, a/c or any other options. I personaly like it that way. I say buy it if you like it.

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

He's asking $6,900 for the car. It was on eBay a couple weeks back and surprisingly only pulled $5,600 as a high bid, and obviously was not sold. I happily would've paid $6,500 for this car, without question...

However, wifey thinks I'll be pissed that when I finally get the IROC I've lusted after since I was a kid, if it doesn't have t-tops. She kind of has a point. I emailed the seller, and asked to go see it this weekend. He's never responded, so I don't know what's up with that...

Add to this the fact that I'm a GSM for a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership, and that the next 20 days will tell how Chrysler will fare, and its probably wise if I hold off for a little while longer anyway

I've been legal to drive since 1996, and have wanted an IROC since the first time I saw one in '85, when I was 5 I can wait a little while longer I guess! I've been happy to see the prices come down a little recently, which has prompted me to increase looking for one. But with the economy, and my job...I dunno...

Neat car though!

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

I say buy it, it is rare to see a very low option IROC. I just bought a no option 89 RS 2.8 5 speed just because the only option it has is A/C, less to break and less weight=faster. All it needs is a motor/trans swap. I am going to clone my old 89 350 fully loaded flame red IROC that had tan leather, totaled it in 1995.

IMO, you should buy it if it's a nice solid car JE, especially for that price. Have fun with it until you find the exact one you want, you might not want to give it up once you get used to it.

Hello there...long time no chat! Yeah, I thought of this idea too...right now I don't know what to do. I finally have the space to keep one at home, so storage is no longer an issue. I'm torn...

But you've heard me whine before Good to hear from you!

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

My 88 Formula 350 is like that, but it was special ordered from the factory, and I got the build sheet with it. The guy ordered it bare-bones as far as creature comforts, the only ones it has is AC, rear defogger, and cassette. Hell, it does not even have intermittent wipers. But, all of the performance options are there, such as engine oil cooler, aluminum drive shaft, WS-6 suspension, and Borg-Warner rear with 3.23(or 3.27? not sure right off-hand) gears.

Re: 87 350 IROC with NO power options!

6,900 is kind of high for what youe getting,i mean yes less head ache but also less power.and t tops r a mans bes friend, every one wants to be able to just drop there tops slightly and cruise on a nice summers day. i got lucky with my 83 berlinetta. only 22,000 miles on a 383 stroker motor new 700r tranny super charged with nos stereo and some killer 22 inch irocs all for 1,200 bucks from a guy on craigs list who wanted to but his kid a new lap top.if is your dream car and you know you wont be let down when another one pulls up next to you tops off clean paint then go for it.just remember reaching over the seat every time you want to roll your window up or down gets tiring
