Re: Crossfire roll call!

my 1982 TA was originally a Crossfire car...does that count? I'd like to return it back to it's original setup whenever I can get/find all the CFI parts.

Both of my '82 Trans Ams were CFI. Previous owners converted them over to carb. I plan to make the Recaro T/A CFI again.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

Chazman the difference I really feel since the change is cruising 65 - 70mph. The steel DS was the source of the vibration I was experiencing. She seems to rev a little smoother/quicker from a start but then that could be my imagination. I would think a manual car with a lightweight flywheel and JG1 DS could have a real world difference

yah, but at the prices some people want you would think they were made with gold. For a system that has such a bad rep, people want more money than what I'm willing to spend. I really need to just find a good donor car...see, everything in my engine bay is stripped of any and all CFI equipment, including everything else that was stock. It makes it a real PITA to piece it all back together.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

1983 LU5 Trans Am. It's still sitting in the garage with the interior out so it could dry out. It's next on the project list after I get my '86 sports coupe converted over to TPI with the 411 computer. I'm planning on keeping the TA as a crossfire car.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

I've got a 1983 Z-28. The previous owner swapped the CFI setup onto a rebuilt 350 block from a 94 G-van and did an okay job of it. Still confused as to WHY he did it, hahaha, but its running great right now.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

Original owner of 82 CrossFire Camaro. Still all original for the major part and interior. It is showing its age in a few areas but is generally in good shape. Was always my second car and has lived most of its life in a garage. But it has also seen rain and snow on some cross county trips.

White exterior with the Dark Claret interior. 44K+ on the clock but the speedo cable was broke at the cruise control for a couple of years, so it most likely has 50-52K on it.

The second set of Eagle GTs is now over 20 years old and probably has less than 10K on them. Time to replace thought **** now if Goodyear still made the tire it would be even better.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

I don't have them anymore, But I had a '82 Z28 pace car with a crossfire, and a loaded with every option '83 Z28 crossfire, the '83 ran much better than the '82, probably because of the 700r4, I parted the '83, because it was hit in the rear, I was going to use the rear disc axle on the pace car, but my '87 Convertible came along so the '82 went, and I sold all the parts off for the '83, I did keep the Dynomax cat back off it and put it on my '87, The motor and trans I sold to guy who put them in a '48 Chevy. Re: Crossfire roll call!

my '82 was LG4/t-10 when i bought it in 1990,but in
1994 swapped in an'84 vette"L83"crossfire 350-was
dissapointed with the stock performance,so modified
and ported the manifold,ported the heads,added a 1/4"
lidspacer-those mods woke up the L83 bigtime
since 1994 has been totally reliable and running great.
All the manifold work (welding and porting)was a bit
of an ordeal, but would do it all over again if i end up
with another C/F third

Re: Crossfire roll call!

the lidspacer was made out of a piece of 1/4" thick
aluminum plate -just traced it out using a spare gasket,
used an electric sabre saw to cut it out
the spacer was added because i wanted more clearance
above the enlarged runner intakes(more plenum
volume is good too)

Re: Crossfire roll call!

Not a lot really given the numbers made.I reckon that the number of people in the states that still have a running system would be less than 500

Re: Crossfire roll call!

I have 2, 1 is a bone stock 83 z28, the other is an 84 H.O. which is in the middle of a swap to crossfire.... Why? because I had an 83 CFI that hda the rear end torn off by a F--king Ford pick up, the camaro drove home and the ford was towed. we found a replacement and had enough to buy an 84 fixer with the insurence. so the 84 now has CFI from an 84 corvette My wife still misses he baby there is a big differince between bringing a dead car to life and writing the check. but that is a long story

'83 Recaro edition Black and Gold T/A. About 130,000 miles. Rust free with restoration in process.

Mostly stock - even about 50% of paint is original.

It's been a while since I've had an English class, but I DO know you can't use "better" and "crossfire" in the same sentence.

This has been debated since CFI was introduced in '82. The same debate occured about 26 years earlier when Rochester FI was introduced. When the issues with the intake and TBI units are handled and the motor properly tuned a CFI has been proven to run very well.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

Hello, not new to forums but just got a 1983 Z28 camaro CFI. it is in replacement to my no money 79 project, this 83 is complete with original parts, and a new crate motor, he just got a crate motor for the bottom end, the CFI and intake/TBI/ wiring is all there, basically it is a big Lego kit car, with plenty of goodies,

im glad to see a good productive forum to go to though.

Update: The Recaro T/A has been up and running with CFI for about a month now. Put about 500 miles on it so far. Ended up having to rebuild the engine. It got a few upgrades like a L69 cam, exhaust manifolds, 3.5" oval Y-pipe, and DynoMax cat back exhaust system. I did mild porting on the heads/intake and gasket matched the ports. The transmission is also out of an L69 car so it shifts at 6K instead of 5K RPM. It goes pretty good! MUCH stronger than my LG4 '84 T/A.

Re: Crossfire roll call!

I've also added L69 exhaust manifolds which exit out of a 3" exhaust. Makes me feel like the 2.93 gear has got to go. I'm thinking about a 3.42.
