You ever seen one of these glove box's?

Does anyone know anything about this dash mounted glove box? What years did it come on. Is it a factory option or is it an after market item?

Finally a picture surfaces of one...it's not a factory piece. A aftermarket company used to make them, but that is the first on I have ever seen where did you find it at?

Never seen a pic of one. Not even when I wrote the article up for the original TGO like almost 12 years ago!

I found it on Z-bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT it mounts under the dash on the pass side.

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

Classic Industries used to have them in the catalog... I guess I'm the only one that requested a catalog with my order?

Anyway, they're aftermarket. I don't remember them ever being that popular. I'm pretty sure the emblem is a customer add on, because the box covered the stock emblem, but the pics I remember didn't show an emblem.

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

The install was to pull the emblem off the dash, put the glove box in, then put that emblem back in basically the spot location, just on the glovebox face now.

If my external hard drive hadn't crashed, I could copy the text over for y'all.

You know where to find another one? That one is sold already.

I've always wanted one to copy, since I know where to get some vacuum forming done. I wanted to disassemble one, reproduce it & start selling.

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

Someone might want to check the latest Classic Industries Camaro catalog before going to the trouble to reproduce them.

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

Not only are they not in there (unless a VERY recent re-addition) but I have contacted Classic directly and they said were not making them, nor had any plans to.

Not even online...They don't show them.

Besides that....A minor change in design & you'd avoid copyright infringement. Not hard to do.

So... it goes under the dash? Or in place of the big blank space on the passenger side...?

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

I googled it and it looks like a reproduction of a 2nd generation camaro glove box for a third gen. But i'm not completely sure. Either way i'd buy that thing in a second.

It goes on the passenger side. Under the dash pad, but on the face of the dash, right about where the emblem usually is. The emblem had to be removed, to let it sit flat and mount correctly.

That's a pretty cool item. Stephen, If I come across one, you'll be one of the first to know. Just remember to do the same if you ever come across an aluminum hood...

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

That sticks out pretty far.

I used to have a cassette tape holder in my Firebird in that location. At some point the door got busted off because people would hit it with their feet or knees or something when getting in the car, and it did not stick out as far as that box does. I'd have to put something in the car in a reasonable duplication of that to see how well it would work.

Re: You ever seen one of these glove box's?

Ive seen one of these mounted in person... They are nifty, but UGLY in my opinion. They also didnt seem very stable. If you were to put enough stuff in them, seemed like they would start to sag off the mounts. Actually saw a bunch of them at spring Carlisle last year. Cant remember if it was a private person that had them or a Classic Ind. tent or something. They seemed overpriced for what they were. They're out there though if you wanted one!
