GTA emblem question
Did all '87 flame red GTAs come with bright red emblems? Mine did, and I'm trying to decide if I want to replace them with the same color or if I want to go with the matching flame red ones like on the 88+ models. I would really like to keep it correct for the year, but I know the matching ones would sure look better.
Re: GTA emblem question
I can't answer your question but if you know they are original then by all means replace them with ones that are the same! Matching color might look better but it's not original. I for one like factory oddities, my 92 is full of them lol!

Re: GTA emblem question
No, not all Flame Red '87 GTAs came with Bright Red emblems. Either style would be considered correct for that year. If you changed them, no one but you would know. As for me personally, I would want my car to be original.
To date, I have not been able to uncover the reason for the differences in application, (plant usage, supply issues, quality control, etc.) No directive(s) from Pontiac regarding this have come to light that I have seen.

Re: GTA emblem question
It may be a simple mistake in the factory. Or there may have been a time when the flame red was NA, so they simply substituted the red as they ran out of the Flame red, or possibly the person on the line simply grabbed the wrong set.
I suspect the plant simply ran out, or there was a problem with the flame red ones.

Re: GTA emblem question
Seeing this info, it may have simply been an issue of the plant using what was readily available as the car was going down the line. I recall one of the '87 GTAs that AUTOWEEK used for testing test was Gunmetal and the car had Black emblems on it... that looked pretty cool in photos.
Again, Chet.... thanks for this.
