Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

Well....

Every single GTA came standard with WS6 (884 built). Plus there were Formulas that could have WS6. Plus the TAs with WS6......In other words?

But 1990 was a short production run so all the 1990 numbers are lower than the other years. So define what you consider "rare".......

Not on any GTAs. And I do know 1LE was more of a Camaro thing, although I think there were a few 'birds that got it, in some years.

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

there were 4 trans am 1le cars in 1990, no formy's were 1le in 1990

there were 4834 formy's in 1990, and ASAIK all formy's are ws6, the 5 speed tpi makes it a little more rare and desirable, but a hardtop would probably be the rarest.

as for the exact numbers, i dont know, Pontiac historical society may have some numbers on the car if you ask for them

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

All Formulas were WS6. It was standard.

According to our website, there was 20,553 Firebirds built in 1990. According to Compnine's database, they have 20,553 Firebirds in their 1990 database. We show 4,834 1990 Formulas as does Compnine's database.

According to Compnine's website/database, there are 247 Firebird Formula's equipped as you described:
w66 (Formula), cc1(T-Top), j65(disc brakes), n10(dual converter), lb9(305 TPI), gu6(3.42 gear), mm5(5-speed)

Note nothing is really 100%. This is a best guess.

I moved this to the History forum as it's more appropriate and on-topic than the Body forum.

Thanks.

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

What you are referring to is different. There is no contest that the "1 of 1" or "1 of 2" is calculated in a way to to give that impression. I think Drew, John or Compnine's IT guy explained it. I cannot recall.

The RPO figure section is different:
www.compnine.com/rpocheck.php

It searches the entire database based on the criteria you provide, per year and model. You provide a list of RPOs and the system returns how many results (VIN)s have those same options. When I plug in the above RPOs it returns 247 - which is reasonable but as I said, it's not guaranteed as nothing is really 100% accurate. It also returned 4,834 1990 Formulas when I plugged in W66 - which agrees with our site.

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

condition and market have a lot to do with value, and ultimately 3rd gens dont get the respect they deserve, but the prices are coming up. The car is uncommon, since 90 was a half year, and it has desirable options, but it will never bring money like 1le cars, tta's, firewawks, or really low mileage cars

4k?

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

"Rare" just doesn't really apply to these cars. Honestly, the vast ownership isn't too concerned about 'rare'. It's not like collectors are running around looking for specific cars. Is a thirdgen with most or all of the high performance options a more unusual car then a 6cyl or a low output 305 car? You betcha. Does that make it worth so much more money? Not really. The difference is neglible. You'll see a larger difference between beaters and nice examples.

Now when it comes to trying to find a car with a specific combination... Almost always the exact combo your after is hard to find.

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

Drew on your formula does it now have the t56 tranny. You swapped out the 700r. Is it better? How much hp gain do you get? Can I do the same with my 305? Is a direct bolt on?

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

I haven't installed the T56 yet. Hate to say it, but the Formula is a pretty low priority on my list. I just don't drive it much. I've been busy working on my Mustang. After I sell some parts, I plan to dump the 700R4 and swap in the T56.

Re: HOW RARE IS 1990 WS6?

I apprciate the callout by JT, but I think the original question has been answered.

1) All Formulas got WS6 (all 4,834), just like all GTA's got WS6 (all 1,447). If you had a TA - non GTA, that had WS6 three were 1,930 of the 2,507 made in 1990 had WS6.

Again from Compnine, Fortunately 1990 is the only year that compnine has been dead on for production figures... At least for 3rd gens...

I know this is an old thread but given I have the same car but with 46,xxx original miles I felt compelled to post.

Mine is all original except for a few sensors and injectors. I knew it would never be collectable or increase in value. I bought it to enjoy driving it. It was my first new car.

BTW, I wanted to order either a black or red car. I had thought about waiting to buy a 1991 with the new bodywork until I saw some spy photos and decided I wanted a 1990 model. I did not know orders were cut off early for the short model year so my heart sank when a local dealer said it was too late to order a 1990. As you may know most dealers did not stock any manual F cars. The only reason I found this car on a local dealer lot was that the person who ordered it had just graduated from college by before he graduated he totaled his car. At that point I doubt he could afford the insurance on this one. He bought a Grand Am off the dealer lot. I got his red Formula. He and I worked at the same big company. I don't think he ever found out that I bought the car he ordered.
