be ready to put a lot of work into it, sitting is the worst thing for a car, 15 years is a long time, im sure you knew this when you were able to buy it for $50

Re: HELP THE NEW GUY!!!!!

Clean Carfax, but just two records...failed then later passed emissions 11/5/90, then passed emissions again 4/29/97 when it had 71,082 miles.

Also I might mention that the Carfax shows this car as a 1983 Trans Am, and not a base model 1984 Firebird.

I'd pick up a Helm's manual if I were you. Not the $15 Chilton or Hayne's manual, but Helm's.

Re: HELP THE NEW GUY!!!!!

Thanks for the info because like I said I don't know a thing about the car the guy I bought it from told me it was an 84 with a 350 and a 450 turbo transmission well anyways I got the car running but the alternator, power steering pump ,and smog pump and all of the hoses and mounting brackets were removed so I was trying to find out if anyone knew where I could get a diagram of the components so I can put them back together

Re: HELP THE NEW GUY!!!!!

Look in the center console and see if it has the RPO codes in their still. Those can be decoded and tell you what kind of options it came with stock. Besides that, pick up a haynes or chiltons manual and have at it. If you don't have to worry about emissions, ditch all that garbage. Save you money and less to worry about.

Re: HELP THE NEW GUY!!!!!

they are 3 digit codes like G80, or B4C. Usally are stuck on the underside of the center console lid. Will be a list of probably 30 or 40. Tell you options like paint colors, gear ratio's, engine installed, transmission, stuff wheel size... stuff like that.

I would start by changing all your fluids and just a good overall cleaning and degreasing.

Re: HELP THE NEW GUY!!!!!

well according to your vin # its a "H" code wich is a 305-carbed-LG4 motor---
but the guy said its a 350 so he might have put a diff engine in, the only way that I know is to look on the engine block for casting #/id---
originally your car should have a 700-r4 4speed but again he said its a turbo 350 0r 400 tanny there is no 450... if you only have 3 forward gears then its the 350 or 400 transmission...
Also since you have a diff engine in there its hard to say where everything goes since diff years/engines the alt-pwr/steering-Etc.. were diff locations to my knowledge...
I think the Helm's manual like "navy02ws6" suggested, will be very helpful to you, not just for now but the future too--- Also just want to point out that I think it was very nice of "navy02ws6" for checking carfax for you...

Im guessing Picture of you car - your progress -
A picture is worth a Thousand words -

Dang man that SUCKS. I would just give you the carb but I need the money too. I'll keep you in my prayers. If I get some more money in, I'll see what I can do.

Re: HELP THE NEW GUY!!!!!

If you have your origional recepts you should patrol the local pawn shops. That's probably where you'll find them. One of my friends actually walked into a pawn shop and stumbled apon the theif trying to sell his stuff. Who knows, you might get lucky.

To help you get a good response for this question, try reposting it in a forum like https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech-general-engine/. It's getting off topic as well as has little to do with History/Restoration. Those with the answers may not be surfing here. Good luck.
