I think I found the real ones

When I bought my car the fog lights had been removed, and I've never ran across a set of OEM fogs for less than $50. So when I found these on an 86 in a juck yard for only $20 I snatched them up. Can somebody that has a set of OEM fog lights take a look at these and tell me if these are or aren't? Plus since I had the camera in hand I couldn't pass up the oppertunity to snap one of the car.

Look good to me. Those things need some restoration though (hint: not plastic polish from Vatozone).

Did sport coupes have angled glass, or was the glass flat like on the Trans-Am? It's been years since I saw a factory foglight SC, and I honestly can not remember.

Re: I think I found the real ones

Well that's a bummer they aren't true Z fogs but I'm still stoked that I got em and I'm gonna clean em up and rock em. When I pulled them off they were held on by only one bolt each but had two mounting holes in the bracket. I looked on the car where they were mounted and there was only one hole for the bolt to pass through.

Those are not the correct brackets for a Z28/Iroc.Secondly sport coupes did indeed come with optional fog lights in 1986-87.The fog lights are exactly the same for sport coupe or Z28.Only difference is the bracket.Ive attached a pic of the Iroc/Z28 brackets.Notice the difference

Are you sure you don't mean the lt? I can't imagine where the sport coupe would mount fogs. Got a pic?

Re: I think I found the real ones

I thought I knew a good deal about 3rdgens... i have never heard of any car besides the Z's (iroc or z28's) having fog lights.

Re: I think I found the real ones

Fog lights were optional on the Sport Coupe and the LT. They used a typical Sport Coupe grill with openings for the lights.

Gotta love it when people are so adamant that something does not exist. It's a pretty unusual option, mostly seen on the Sport Coupe convertibles. Way back in the early 90's when I got my sport coupe, there was another in town with the factory fog option. I liked the option so much, I went to the Chevy dealership and bought the fog grille. I think it was about $22. It's long since discontinued, unfortunately. Here's a pic of my grille. The grille is GM, the lights are not. I scored a set of SC mounts a few months back from another member that looked just like the ones in original post.

Re: I think I found the real ones

sounds like the OP is better off with what he has. I bet the SC mounts could fetch a higher price than the fairly common IROC mounts. sell them, and get what he needs

Re: I think I found the real ones

The sport coupe fog light grille is the rare part.Ive pulled fogs off of several junkyard sport coupes and one LT camaro in the past. There used to be a silver SC with fogs not too far away from my house but I havent seen one for awhile

Re: I think I found the real ones

And that is why I keep an open mind on things, cause just when you think you know a good bit, you find out something else. Thanks for the insight everyone. The car I pulled them off of did have the SC nose with the slits in it but the grill was long gone. Only hint of a grill ever being there were small pieces of plastic around the screws that used to hold it on.
