Re: RPO CODES

RPO 1SZ - Value option group but not sure of content (These 1Sx packages are usually a combination of options)
RPO R6P - Can either be Sales Control item 15 or Performance Package with G92.N10,J65,KC4
I hope this helps more than confuses

Re: RPO CODES

Being a 1991 the R6P is the performance option for the Trans Am, later the RPO used on the Formula and GTA, where it was more standard fare to have those options anyways... The option was used on the LB9/M5 and L98 cars only IIRC. Performance Package with G92.N10,J65,KC4

Re: RPO CODES

That's not entirely accurate. For at least 1991 Firebirds (I'd assume it's the same for 92), R6P is basically the same thing as G92 on a Camaro... Firebirds with R6P don't carry the G92 code. There is really no reason for them to carry a code for an optional upgraded axle ratio since the axle ratios where standard based on engine/transmission. Understand that G92 is not included in R6P. I've got two SPID's here with R6P and without G92.

The contents of the package are as listed above, (J65) 4 wheel disc brakes, (KC4) oil cooler, (N10) dual converter exhaust, and (GU5 : 3.23 or GU6 : 3.42) performance axle ratio. The package was standard on the Formula and GTA with either the L98, or LB9 5spd. It was optional on the Trans Am with the LB9/5spd.

Also keep in mind that due to the PBR disc brake shortage, it's possible to have a R6P Firebird with drum brakes.

Re: RPO CODES

I see what your trying to say what was so inaccurate... You are correct that the G92 was not part of the package. I copied and pasted it, I was thinking the GU5 or GU6, thanks for correcting me.

Originally the R6P was NA on the Formula and GTA in 1991-1992 only, simply because the Formula and GTA they came standard with the N10,J65,KC4 (and performance axle) when equipped with the L98 or LB9/M5, later on it was used on them as well.

The G92 was only used on the Trans Am from 1988 - 1992 and Formula 1991 - 1992 when they came with the 1LE package.

NOTE that there was NO R6P cars in 1990 or earlier. There was 4 G92/1LE Trans Am's in 1990 however...

Idk about that... It must not have been N/A very long. My Formula was invoiced 5/90, which I would consider to be fairly early in the 1991 production run and it carries R6P. R6P is listed on the invoice and the SPID.

I would expect the confusion of G92 being included in R6P comes from the words "performance axle ratio" under the R6P contents, which is the definition for G92. However in this case R6P cars don't carry the G92 rpo code. It'd be redundant anyway since G92 only seems to be used where there is an optional upgraded axle ratio available. I only point it out here, because if I don't someone will surely find it in a search later and it'll lead to countless silly threads...

It also raises the question, why did Pontiac feel the need for the R6P code when it was included with the L98 or LB9 5spd. There's really no reason for it to even show up on those cars. Or why Chevy didn't have a code specifically for the same package, aside from the typical G92 code.

Re: RPO CODES

Drew,
If you look at the Dealer Order worksheets (7/90 fourth Printing) it states that the R6P is:
"Performance Enhancement Group, Inc. Engine Oil Cooler, Dual Convertor Exhaust, Front Disc - Rear Drum brakes and Performance Axle Ratio - Opt Trans Am w/LB9 V-8 Engine w/MM5 5-Spd Manual Transmission - Req'd w/LB9 V-8 Engine w/MM5 5 Speed Manual Transmission on Formula and GTA and w/B2L Engine on Formula, Trans Am and GTA"

This was the 4th Printing of the sheet, the 4th Printing included the following Changes:
45 - Dark Green Metallic (possibly the addition of the color)
98 - Bright Blue Metallic (possibly the addition of the color)
LB9 and B2L, And R6P. I suspect that the change for the LB9, L98 and R6P was the removal of the Disc Brakes as they were NA for a time for 1991.

I only have the 4th printing, I would really like to get he 1st (which usually nothing ever applied but there interesting as they change before production starts) 2nd, 3rd and 5th printing if there was one. Then you could actually track the changes they made during he year.

Re: RPO CODES

That would make sense... The work sheet I quoted from earlier is the third printing, 5/90, which shows 4 wheel discs as part of the package. The PBR shortage would explain the change in contents of the kit.
