Re: HELP needed....need vin decoded

8th digit H = LG4; the lowest perf 305 available in these cars, and BY FAR the most common from 87 back

Definitely NOT a HO

In that year, 8th digit G = HO, or F = TPI

Not Players Cup AFAIK but not being Canuck I'm not as familiar with what cars were run in what years in that series

Looks like neither his car or yours is anything "special", "rare", etc. That's just a bunch of Firebird talk anyway. But, if they're in good shape, that's worth .... something, even if the cars are quite ordinary.

Re: HELP needed....need vin decoded

Location Code Description
1 Country 1 USA
2 Manufacturer G General Motors
3 Make 1 Chevrolet
4 Carline Code F F Body
5 Model P Sport Coupe OR Z28
6&7 Body Type 87 2 door coupe
8 Engine H 305 ci (5.0 L) V8 LG4
9 Check Digit 5 Your check digital appears to match the calculated check digital
10 Model Year G 1986
11 Assembly Plant N Norwood
12-17 Production Number 163491

That is what you VIN will tell you.

What would make it something special is if you had the L69 motor instead of the LG4. IN the VIN that's a G

As sofakingdom and AmorgetRS pointed the eight digit of the car's VIN being an H = LG4. The designator for the HO (L69) = G. And the L69's production numbers for '86 is only 74 as listed in the White Book. Also for '86 I believe the L69 was 5 speed only (as it was in '83 and '85 but not completly certain on this).

Re: HELP needed....need vin decoded

These were the car's that were responsible for the 1le car's that came later. ALL were 5 speeds! The 86's were l69 ho's. The players series was a showroom stock racing series. If it has an auto tranny it is NOT a players car. (unless someone change the tranny???) P.m me the vin and I'll get it decoded at the local G.M dealer for you. (Will have rpo a4u in the spid if real) After 86, the cars were all lb9 tuned port, worldclass 5 speed g42 rear cars. All were the SAME. Hope it helps. If you want to chat about this, p.m me as I have 1 of the 22 trans am's that were built for the 87 series.
