Last of the 3rd Gens

I am one of those that like keeping their car original and have discussed that on various threads. I'm kind of glad I did now. My car is one of the very last 92 Birds built (build date of 8/92) and so it will be nice to be a original representation for people to see, and one for anyone restoring a 92 in the future. Although I would not consider my car a "benchmark" car, it does still have most of the original decal and stickers, date coded hoses and the wiring and hose routing are all original too. These will probably be helpful in years to come. People don't realize how hard it actually is to keep a car original, so I hope it pays off for someone in in the future. ps: does anyone know of the # of the last 92 Bird built or a way to find out what it is? thanks.

Re: Last of the 3rd Gens

August 27, 1992 was the last day for the ThirdGen Firebird and Camaro.

The last Firebird's VIN, according to David M, was 1G2FS23T3NL227568

Thread linked below about the last Firebird:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...-firebird.html

Leonard has the last ThirdGen Camaro, which is also the very last ThirdGen built:

Re: Last of the 3rd Gens

JT, thanks so much. I knew about the last Camaro, saw that thread before. I was curious as to the Birds and had never seen that thread. It looks like mine was farther away then I thought as mine is #225782, about 1500 before the last, probably built in the 1st or 2nd week of Aug. Still, it's one built in the last month. I will say this, that although mine is in no way rare, I have owned it 14 years and have never seen it's twin in person, including 3 years at STARS. Some don't like the 92's because of the gfx, but I'm glad I got one. Thanks again JT.

Re: Last of the 3rd Gens

I believe if you contact a local GM dealer, they can provide you additional information, such as build dates, if you want to narrow down a date for your vehicle. I know David M, who works for a GM dealership, can do as such.

Re: Last of the 3rd Gens

For your 1988? You'll most likely have to contact GM Media Archive and pay a fee to get an invoice. That will include some dates on it. Link is below:

http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/

The GM dealers appear to only go back around 1990-1991 and newer, unless the car is Canadian.

Re: Last of the 3rd Gens

Must have been a sweet ride with the 3.1 and the soft ride suspension. Third Gen Firebirds really went out in style. At least Leonard was able to do the right thing for the Camaros.

Re: Last of the 3rd Gens

If memory serves the last 2 weeks were almost all base firebirds and Camaros, they saved the parts and pieces for Leonard's car... If you find the thread on Leonard's car you will see the Black Firebird.
