That car is going to be a tough sell. Someone really has to want a white on red all bark and no bite IROC, and has to love no power options and the base interior.

Looks nice but somebody tampered with it. Owners lost the original key for the lock cylinder, the wheels are 85-87 and looks like somebody painted them. L03 dog engine.Nice car with low miles, but i wouldn't buy it, thats just me though
Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
LO3 no option IROC? Manual windows, doors, mirrors, no power hatch release, base interior, etc. Seems to have a decent bit of wear on it for 9k miles as well, and some panels look more yellowed out than others.

Dislike- Cheeseball non stock black rims, L03/auto combo (why oh why??l
Overall nice but he's dreaming if he thinks he's getting close to that price in this market. I personally like lack of power options (my own is like that) but I realize I'm in the minority. And the L03 will just kill it.

Although its a nice car, since you said youre new, if you stick around here for some time, youll quickly learn the difference between rare/valuable and desirable.

Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
That '88 IROC is a nice car its just the low hanging fruit on the IROC food chain. No offense to the L03 guys out there but GM should never have put the L03 in the IROC's. It would have been a lot better in my opinion if they kept the L69 and put TBI fuel injection on it. That would be a step up in stock performance and plug up the gap better than the choices between the TBI LO3 and the TPI LB9 and TPI L98 engines.
I also don't like what they did with the wheels painting those black inserts in them and thats not the correct wheel for that year.
The car also has the base non-custom interior too. Nothing wrong with that but its not my preference.

Nice looking car, but the options are not there for me on it. I like the white Iroc's.

Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
My guess is someone put some ugly aftermarket wheels on it years ago, sold the originals, and a more recent owner (who doesn't know the difference between 85-87 wheels and 88-90 wheels) put the wrong ones back on it.
Personally I prefer the 85-87 wheels, so to me, they're an upgrade

Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
Ha ha yeah depends on which style wheels you like. I have an '88 IROC and I like the '88-'90 IROC wheels too more so than the '85-'87 wheels.
Having said that I still think that the 15'' x 7'' Z28 wheels, the '85-'87 IROC wheels, the '88-'89 IROC wheels and the 16 x 8'' '91-'92 wheels work on most of our cars very well.

Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
I think the reasoning behind the wheels is pretty obvious. I am positive the car came with the base 15" wheels. Someone wanted a true "IROC" wheel on it, so they bought a set of used 16s, painted them up and slapped them on. IROCs look silly with 15s. I don't have an issue with that upgrade.
To me, the car is probably worth $10k. Its basically an RS with fancier exterior trim, and nothing else. Someone will want it, but when you can get a nice IROC with the right options for $15k? I wouldn't buy this one either, but I can see why someone would....

I'm sure that is exactly what happened with it's wheels. Personally, I'd rather have the base 15" IROC wheels rather than what's on there now, which are incorrect, incorrectly painted and have a funny looking tire size.

Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
From 1985-1987 all of the IROC's came standard with the 16'' wheels.
In 1988 GM stopped making the non-IROC-Z28 model and just made the sport coupes and IROC's. The 15'' wheel from the Z28 became the standard wheel on the IROC's and the 16'' IROC wheel became an option.
In 1989 the base IROC wheels were re-styled 15'' wheels that looked like the 16'' IROC wheels. This year the 15'' IROC wheels were standard equipment to.
For the 1990 model year I'm not sure if you were still able to get the 15'' IROC style wheels. I'm sure someone here can help us out on that one.
Most of the IROC's between 1988-1989 that had the L03 also had the 15'' Z28 or 15'' IROC wheels stock. Many people change them out overtime as has been mentioned here.
We know that the L98 IROC's came with 16'' wheels as a manditory factory option. I have seen some LB9/700r4 and L03 cars that have had 15'' wheels as well.

Yeah that's what I told him, but I also had no confirmation that the option was possible. Its a two owner car that he bought 14 years ago with 32k on it...
I had never seen the 15" iroc wheels until his car. I argued with him that it was a dolled up RS when he first bought it.

Thats a very nice looking car.
It just makes me wonder why didn't GM just put fuel injection on the L69 engine after 1987 when they made all the Camaro engines fuel injected?

I don't even think the N10s would even bolt up to L03 exhaust manifolds without modification. I think the passenger side one exits at a different angle than LB9/L98/L69 ones.

Forget the rims and the engine.
It has the worst color combo possible; white exterior with red interior.

Re: 88 iroc with 9k miles...
Yes that is what a 1985 LB9.
I was thinking more along the lines of paring the L69 with TBI fuel injection. That would have been much better in terms of factory performance than the L03 motor was.
I would also leave all the factory exhaust and dual snorkle intake from the L69 engine on the L69/TBI system aswell.
The factory intake and exhaust system on the L03 and LG4 engines is one of the first things that needs to be addressed to improve performance. If you are going to stick with factory components it would be a wise move to step up to the LB9/L98 single cat TPI exhaust system from the manifolds on back to the tail pipes.
The L69 engine is a factory hot-rodded LG4 anyway. The LB9 is a factory hot-rodded L69 with TPI fuel injection.
I don't think it would have been asking too much for GM to pair the L69 with TBI fuel injection either. I know that GM installed many TBI 305's and TBI 350's in so many vehicles that I bet they thought the cost would have been too great with respect to designing / testing / installing / meeting federal regulations for a TBI system specifically just for L69.
That would have been additional cost for GM to have a specific TBI system for the L69 and still have to produce TBI systems for the TBI 305 L03's and TBI 350's.
I would also help to close the gap with respect to performance between the L03 and LB9 & L98 cars.

I like the car. Looks sharp, and I do actually dig those wheels. The L03/ auto is forgivable too, as a car in that condition probably shouldn't see a whole lot of stoplight to stoplight action or track time anyway.
But WHY OH WHY DID THEY PUT RIKEN RAPTORS ON IT?
9k miles, IROC suspension, 14k and that's the best they can do?

Thats still steep. It has the base-non custom interior and its red. Red interiors in our cars are on two extremes - either people really like them or really hate them.
Yes its a nice car but for 14k I could find an L98 car that was loaded with options that was also a low miliage car. If you are going to spend that kind of money for a collector-car-quality thirdgen why not go for the top of the food chain.

I'm surprised to see the hating on this car. Yeah, its overpriced a little, but its a decent car...

Ha ha no I don't think we are hating. That is a very nice car and it's in good condition.
It's just not one of the highest IROC's on the food chain and there are other cars in that price range that have more options.
With it being and L03 and not to many other options that car is a relative light weight. If I bought that car I would want to leave it stock because of how low the mileage is.
If it was a higher mileage car that needed some work that would be the perfect car to get some performance upgrades. It already has the IROC suspension and the light weight would make for a fast car with a more powerful engine.
