2.8 auto t top car (wanted badly) its got its rust but my big thing is no ground fx like my old RS and its got a carb (HAAATEE fuel injection) what do you guys think? if i do buy it he only wants $800 car runs drives awesome just needs tires and a tune up

Sounds like a great deal if it is in good running and driving condition.

it obviously needs a bit of work but my big thing is it runs and drives and the floors are good.....idk whats up with the t tops tho....are the weatherstrip kits expensive?
Re: Possibly buying an 83 Berlinetta
ok, based on the cars you are looking at, I can see why you had so many problems with the other car. You can't really expect much from a car when you're paying so little for it. You would rather have a mustang but they want too much for them? Once again, the really cheapness of the 3rd gen owners rears it's ugly head.
Oh, fixing the ttops might cost you more than the car is worth.

That car has a Z28 nose and hood on it. An $800.00 car is just that-cheap, beat and needs alot of work. I mean if you want to put the time and money in it, then it might not be bad for $800 as $800 buys nothing nowa days.

well i bought it.....kid gave me a stack of recepts of stuff thats been taken care of on it....its been pretty well maintained rides good has new shocks and stuff underneath carb has been rebuilt, interior is in good shape and he gave me the weatherstrip kit for the roof
im gonna be throwing an old set of crager S/S wheels on it that have good tires the body is fine like i said it has its rust but seriously nothing major
owner is goin away to college out of state thats why he sold it so cheap he is actually a friend of a friend and im hearing nothing but good things and as for the nose swap i like that nose a bit more and i probably would have tried finding it anyway

Good luck with the car and I agree that the Z28 nose and hood looks better as since you are not going for a stock restore than it's a none issues. A friend of mine has an 82 Firebird 2.8 auto and that has to be one of the slowest cars I have ever been in.

Re: Possibly buying an 83 Berlinetta
car cleaned up AMAZING obviously gonna need a carpet and i wil be putting seats in it.....t tops DONT leak after all....so im puzzled by why the PO siliconed them shut..... the origonal rims are in decent shape but i got vette rims from my dad (they were on his 71 El Camino)
only got the rears on now the rear rims are obviously wider than the fronts will be
but here are good pix of it

its gonna have the 67 and older center caps not the 68-up
are those plates supposed to be white? they look like crap i think im just gonna go with black ones

and here is the under side...NO rust just on the rear quarters

Re: Possibly buying an 83 Berlinetta
Congrats on the "new" ride ! $800 is a great price for ANY car with an inspection sticker in the window these days. It will cost $3-400 just in taxes here in RI to buy/register a thirdgen here in RI.... That's ON TOP the 60 registration fee. (They call it a tax on "special interest" vehicles. )
Since your "new" ride is not a rust bucket, has got full a full gauge package, & T-Tops ( AWESOME ! ) you made a pretty sweet deal !
Is the hood steel or fiberglass ??

Better looking car than I thought at first. I kinda like the looks of the black fats in the rear and stocks up front-kinda LOL! No someone painted thoes parts white and if i were you I would at least paint them black for the time being.

Re: Possibly buying an 83 Berlinetta
its a steel hood
i figured that...i scrubbed em down with burple power yesterday and repainted em....the P.O. was defanetly a heavy smoker (i smoke too but not in my car) i wipe things down and its just a nasty yellow-brown
every car ive ever owned with it gave me problems...first was an 96 Monte (first car) than i had 2 swapped Civics (B series) than my 91 RS...literaly every sensor has to be replaced and it still didnt run right...plus my dad raised me on carbs i just find em easier to work on
here is a pik of the interior now that the console and gauges are black....

and a close up

and i cleaned up the engine bay a tiny bit gonna get a scrub brush and go to town...car show is comming up on the 13th and my dad wants me to put it in the show along side his 71 El Camino

dads camino..just because

if you were wondering where i got the idea for the rear tires...mine are off his car...we went fatter with a better tire im gonna do matching front rims but with the 67 style center caps

Re: Possibly buying an 83 Berlinetta
is there anyway this thread can be moved to the "Members camaro" section of the forum id like to use it as my build thread...
and as the build goes havent done much aside from getting a new carpet but not putting that in until i get the rear and front seats.....doing a leather black rear and summit racing buckets up front like i had in my mustang
also painted my headlight buckets black...looks wayyyy better IMO also need the covers that go in the front bumpers where the fogs would go
before:

after

gotta touch up the front bumper...someone scratched "5.0" in the front bumper...
