Can Someone Tell Me About These 1987 Formula Wheels?
I was looking at ebay this morning and saw this 1987 Formula 350 and noticed something a little strange about the wheels.

They have the factory pattern, but don't have the center caps and are not concaved dished inwards like the stock wheels. I've never seen any like those before. I assume they are aftermarket custom wheels and not some rare factory option.

... All Formulas came with the WS6 Performance Package and 245/50R16 Tires mounted on 16 inch Hi-Tech (convex) Turbo "Snowflake" style wheels from the 85 thru 87 WS6 Trans Am...

Didn't those first appear on or were optional on the '84 15th anivesery TA?-painted IIRC. I have often heard those referred to as "fiero style"16" wheels

Interesting. I guess I just never really paid much attention to them before. I have been looking at some web photos of the 1987 Firebird, I've seen some more like them now. I also see plenty of 1987 Formulas with concave/centercap wheels, maybe these are 15" wheels and the convex wheels were the 16" option?

Looking at one of the pics posted on eBay, it appears the sail panel sticker is way too high. Looks like they tried to center it.

I think the 85 WS6 TA's came with them as well.

Re: Can Someone Tell Me About These 1987 Formula Wheels?
Yes those are the standard 16" wheels on an '87 Formula.
They were also used on '84 15th Anniversary T/As and '85/'86 WS6 cars.

And they are very heavy. I'd almost bet its the heaviest of any factory 3rdgen wheel.

Re: Can Someone Tell Me About These 1987 Formula Wheels?
those are the standard wheels. the concave ones you see on 86 and 87 Firebirds are 15" and are not the same as 88-92 Formula wheels - they are concave, but not as "deep dish" as the 16" Formula wheels. also, the 16" Formula wheels have little allen-head studs around the inside of the perimeter of the wheels. and the center caps on the 15-inchers are always or usually black with a Firebird emblem, i think, whereas the Formula center caps are silver and say WS6.
and yes, the convex 16" wheel found on the 87 Formula can also be found on earlier model (86?) Trans Ams. I've always found the convex wheels to be rather unattractive compared to the deep dish, concave 88-92 Formula wheel.
