need some help to determine the value of a vert
My father has a 1988 sports coupe convertible with 90k miles, 305 tbi, 4speed auto, red with gray gf which it has been repainted in the hands of previous owner. Overall it's a pretty attractive thirdgen. Body is in great condition, straight with no rust. Only damage is to paint on drivers side rear bumper (spiderwebbed) and passenger side front spoiler (scratched). Does have some rust on the underside of the hatch now that I think about it. Only other issues I can think of is rip in driver's seat, needs a new top, cruise control and AC don't work at the moment, and all the speakers are pretty much shot. Title is clear of any accidents and such. I will upload some photos when I get to a pc. I am leaning towards in being around the $3200- $4,000 mark, but don't want to overprice this for him to sell.

Pictures will help. The problem is that the things it needs are a bit pricey for someone to have them repaired. The top is a $500-$1000 repair, The A/C and cruise can both cost quite a bit depending on what's wrong with them along with the seats needing to be recovered and possible paintwork. And with rust on the hatch there may be more that you can't see.
That said, you put it out there at the price you'd like to get for it and the response will tell you if it is overpriced. You can always go down on price. Good luck with your sale.

Thank you, I will have photos soon. Pretty sure AC just needs to be recharged.

I've heard that one before...and I've been known to walk away from sellers that tell me that. Air conditioning is a sealed system. It's not supposed to leak. Ever. If it needs a charge, it's leaking. If it's leaking, parts need to be replaced.
I'm thinking a fair retail price to pay for that car is no more than $1500-2000, as it also needs a top, interior, paint, sound system, and has rust issues. If it were not a convertible, I'd say part it out. That being said, I'd probably ask $3000. It sounds like the car needs a LOT to get it right, and top-of-the-line low mileage IROC convertibles can still be had for well under $10K. I see it taking at least $6-7K for the next owner to get this car right.

Yeah the a/c on these cars are hard to come across being 100% sealed. I'll have to dig into that issue a bit to figure out the exact problem. Finally got around to taking a few photos. Didn't get some of the hatch rust area, but good shots of interior and exterior.

If the car runs, driver and stops good, tires are good and the underside is clean than I say put it up for $3,500 and see how it goes. The guy that said if it was not a VERT it would be a parts car is crazy! I would hate to see what he would say about my RS. The 3rd gens are priced high here in Ohio and I see you are just over in Indy so I'm sure they are priced about the same. Winter is a bad time of year to sell a sports car so I would wait till the spring. See to me the AC and the CC are a non issue on a play car. The AC don't work on eaither of my cars and I don't care. My TA is a T-top so even if the AC worked I would never use it EVER as my cars are not DD's The speakers are not hard to replace and can be had cheap. Rust sucks, my RS has some surface rust, but if you get a car for the right price and it's just surface rust it's not a big deal.
Over all nice looking car form the pix. Seems like it would make a nice project or cheap summer toy for someone.

Thanks bud, I appreciate your word on that. That's what my father would like for it and I believe letting it go for as low as 3k would be okay, but any lower than that...Hell I will just keep it for myself and get to work on making it a 10/10! And most of them out here go for cheap...since they have been abused. The expensive onces are donked out...but I do see some work of the 5-10k asking price.

I said ask $3500, might not get that, but $3k shoud not be too hard to get in the spring. If you can get the car off him cheap and like 3rd gens I would pick it up and fix it up. Nice 3rd gens are getting hard to find for cheap so might want to think about that.
