It's a 92 Camaro with a TBI 305. Not sure how to tell an RS, but somebody else will know.

I believe in 92 RS was the base model.

Be nice to know what the factory color was also.
I know the car isnt stock, it has a 350 crate in it. The body has ground effects and it has a wing on the hatch, curious if that stuff was stock, or added over time.

I dont know which direction I'm gonna go with the car yet, and this info may
help guid my decisions, especially on paint.

Thanks,
Paul

Car was Medium Quasar Blue Metallic with the L03 engine. Sign up for a free account at Compnine.com and enter your VIN for more information.

Just curious if I'm missing something, I just checked the Compnine website and it looks like they want a minimum of $10/month.

Ok, thanks for verifying. There was another link for checking vins that changed recently too.

Re: Help with learning my cars history.

If it's for your listed 1985 and 1986 Camaros, you'll likely not get results with Compnine unless those are exported Camaros since Compnine's database generally doesn't have anything older than ~ 1990 unless it's an export.

You'd need to go through GM Media Archive for an invoice instead:

Re: Help with learning my cars history.

Thanks JT

Guys, I'm not a car guy, if fact, this is the 1st one I've owned, I'm a truck guy,
any additional info would be usefull, for example, what models have the effects kit.
Would it be sacralidge to speak of removing it for better clearance?

Thanks,
Paul

Ok, thank you very much! I recall trying and not being able to get that info when Compnine was available earlier, but they had stated at the time that they would be updating it in the future. That must not have ever happened.
I appreciate the info because I would have been wasting my money if I had paid to check.

There is a book Called "The Camaro White Book"/Antonick that lists Camaros year by year explaining the vin code meaning, RPO codes, numbers produced and other small facts. It won't say how many of yours were built but lists how many of a certain RPO code (as well as colors etc.) that were built. If you search online(Ie. Google: 1992 RS RPO) you should be able to find similar information for free.
This website aslo has some information here (found from the home page):
https://www.thirdgen.org/1992-chevy-camaro
https://www.thirdgen.org/Camaro-Rally-Sport

The RS has the ground effects, however removing them might require a new front and rear bumper as well. If you don't like ground effects you may want to look for a sports coup. I prefer sports coups after '85 myself. It's pretty common for people to modify Thirdgens and there's a lot of modifications on this website as well, so don't feel bad about that. The only thing that bothers me personally is modifying one that's unmolested as there aren't as many as there used to be.

Edit: BTW, do not remove the black piece along the bottom in the front (air dam), it's not part of the ground effects. It is needed to keep pressure in front of the radiator and it's common for the engine to overheat if it's removed.

Re: Help with learning my cars history.

Definetly an RS, it's got the Y86 option code. I'm staring at a SPID sheet on your car right now. Originally a 305 TBI (RPO L03), auto trans, 2.73 rear gear, rear drum brakes (RPO J41), hardtop, Med. Quasar Blue paint (80U), black base cloth interior (19B), soft ride suspension (FE1). The rear spoiler, and ground effects were standard equipment as mentioned earlier. Car was built March 13, 1992.
