Low Mile 1987 Z28
Hey guys I had to post this car. It's getting hard to find clean 1985-1987 Z28's like this anymore. This car has a lot of options that were available that year as well. Seller is asking $13,400 for it. It's got the LB9/T-5 drive train, aluminum drums, delco bose stereo, T-tops, headliner pocket, etc. The car has 28,000 miles on it.

It actually looks like that horrible rust proofing they used to put on the cars back in the 80's from the dealerships. My Dad's 85 has that stuff on it also. It can be removed.

The drums is what kills this car from being a complete perfect package optioned Z28. It's only missing 4 wheel disc for me to want the car. Otherwise this car is just perfect.

I enlarged the pic ... and that's what it is..... they got it on the water over flow tank too.
Did that stuff help with rust ?

No the 4 wheel disc was available on the Z28 as well. Not just the iroc. I had a z28 that was a basket case of a car but it had the J65 disc brakes.

Not really sure if did actually help with rust. I am sure it was just a typical dealer add-on gimmick of the 80's. I am not surprised they got it on the coolant bottle also. The application of it was a kind of messy.

This is what happened. I see this quite often, but a car that's driven 1,000 miles/yr isn't even driven in the rain and doesn't need any supplementary "rustproofing".
And except for that slime, and a misadjusted parking brake, the car appears to be just about perfect in both condition and option configuration.

Reminds me of the sene in the movie Fargo ..... the buyer didn't want some special coating, but got it anyway.
In Calif ( probably all over ) they figued out a way to sell you air for your tires.

That looks like the Rusty Jones treatment. It does prevent rust because it was a soft wax that kept the moisture out. The underside of my car looked brand new when I removed the undercoating. Since then, some unpainted steel components have surface rusted. The question comes down to what looks worse, the undercoating that keeps the rust at bay or the orange tint of rust on undriven cars. I would think that it would be good for someone looking to drive their car daily year round in salt environments.

That's it.... "Let me go talk to the manager" and he just leaves the room and has coffee and comes back... too funny.....

Can I ask a question? I saw in your interior pics that you have that weird overhead console with the special mirror. What is all that? My dad has it on his IROC but we have no clue what it is suppose to do.

This is definitely a custom ordered car. GM would have never stocked this car with these options. On thing I find really interesting is the car is a Z28 (non-IROC) and it has factory fog lights. All of the base z28 cars I have seen never had fog lights. Always just that ugly black plastic grill. As seen here http://clients.automanager.com/02312...c4e4a4307d5d86

In 1987, Option package 3 for the Z28 came with fog lights. This car is basically loaded. It probably was a customer ordered car, but GM doesn't stock cars, dealers do. A dealership could have ordered this car to have a loaded Z28 to compare to a loaded IROC-Z. For all we know, the dealer had a loaded LT so customers can see the fully loaded options for all models. This car might have even been used at an Auto Show so it was loaded for all to see. At this point, we don't know the true story, but I have seen a few fully loaded 87 Z28s in the past. I'd love to own this one!

WOW that's got to be the most loaded non-IROC I've ever seen! Particularly since it has the LB9, overhead console, and Bose. It's a real shame that it doesn't have t-tops though! Also no rear defrost, which is strange. Looks like a great car with the 5 speed and super low miles.

I personally think it will go for 13 or maybe even a tad more. Low miles and the options should bring in the money
