Matching Emblems

Hey, guys, I have a question about an originality issue. I've mentioned in the past that my goal is to get my Z28 back to original as much as possible, and I'm starting to make some purchases toward that end. I have determined that the way my Z is currently painted is not a factory Z28 paint job, and I believe that replacing the rocker emblems that are on it now are part of what I will have to change when I get the car repainted. As I understand it from the RPO codes, my Z came from the factory painted red, but it does not currently have the four-stripe graphics above the rocker panels. The rocker panel emblems and the back bumper emblem should be a tri-red to quasi-match the four-stripe decal. The dash emblem, though, is a tri-orange. Did the outer and inner emblems match up, or was the tri-orange on the dash always that color even if your Camaro was, say, predominantly blue and had the blue graphics package? Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Matching Emblems

I've only ever seen two colors for the dash emblem and that was the tri-orange (earlier years, like my '83) and then the tri yellow (later years...I think like, 90-92). So no, the dash emblem doesn't have to match the rockers. hope that helps.

Yes, that helps a lot. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some continuity issue I'd be missing if I left the dash emblem alone. Thanks a lot!

Re: Matching Emblems

Are you positive on the emblem colors? The Red Z28 with red graphics would have the red emblem. If you had the grey graphics, then the emblem would be grey.

According to Chevrolet, A red car with black interior would have gotten the red stripes. A red car with the grey interior would get the silver stripes (RPO 17A) and a red car with red interior got the dark red (RPO 77A) stripes.

...which is what I have, because my interior is black. It is definitely NOT three-tone red.

Re: Matching Emblems

If you have the SPID label in the center console, look for these RPO codes that are listed above to see which ones were on your car.
