Wanting to know the value of my car
Hi guys, first post on the forums. Back in June I went to a good guys car show, and after two years of hard work I finally bought my first car. I have always liked third gens, and saw the car and was amazed. It looked nice, but I had no clue what was in it, or how rare it was. It is a 92 Z28 heritage package with the L98 350 in it. The car is red, with black stripes. Currently the car has 98k miles. I am the second owner, the first owner was a 60+ year old lady who over maintained the car(kick *** right?) and only drove it about 4000 miles a year. It has a red interior, its a g92 code, and has four wheel disc breaks. She custom built this car from the factory, and I have the build sheet, along with every maintenance record down to every last oil change. I plan to keep this car my whole life, but I would still like to know a ballpark range of what the value is. I paid a measly 4 grand for this car and I know it is worth a lot more than that. No hate replies please, just looking for an honest dollar value for the car. Thanks!

Not sure how much more than $4k a 23 year old, 98k mile car is worth. Read sticky before experts chime in.
Re: Wanting to know the value of my car
There's no way to tell you what it's worth. If you need to know for insurance purposes or whatever, you'll need to get an appraisal. You're only get "opinions" here and they are about worthless, since the car will have higher value to some and lower value to others. Nobody on this forum is authorized or certified to appraise a vehicle sight unseen.
The car is worth what you paid for it or what you can sell it for. Either one.

Re: Wanting to know the value of my car
Scott that is the best answer I have seen in a while! I have an '87 Iroc that I picked up for $750 two years ago that is completely rust free but had a blown motor. Everything else was there though. 5.0tpi 5 speed with the bose and g92 options and I would have paid $2000 for it, but he only wanted $750. I wouldn't have paid $4000 for your car because it's not what I was looking for. I don't drive automatic sports cars and will not ever own one. However to the right person in my area your car could be worth $6000-$8000.
Everything has a value and that value is what a buyer will pay for it and not what you think it's worth.

I'm not typically a fan of automatics either, and I plan to do an LS-T56 swap eventually but it was the right deal at the time so I took it.

Re: Wanting to know the value of my car
I would suggest trying some of the online calculators... But KBB has nothing more than 20 years old, Edmunds is so far off from reality that it is worthless, would come in around $2500 for a pristine example.
It would so depend on many factors...
NADA has it anywhere between $8000 & $16,000 Which is consistent with some of the sales I have seen on low miles pristine cars...

I'm all about a LS1/T56 swap. Matter of fact that's why I have a T56 mated up to my 383 now and I have a fully running 99Z (to transplant everything), but I gotta agree with Bob>>>

However There are several values to any vehicle
1) The Appraisal Value
2) The most you would buy the car for
3) What you could sell it for
4) The insurance (totaled) value - What Insurance will pay you when it is totaled.
You get an Appraisal for the Insurance, not for what you can sell it for. Because what you are willing to buy it for will probably be higher than what you could sell it for.
For example:
87 Formula - Yellow, T-tops, Custom interior, near perfect
1) Appraisal to replace: $25,000
2) What I would buy one for if I could find it exactly right $10,000
3) What I could probably sell it for: $7000 (on a good day)
4) Insurance value $2,500 ($25000 with the Appraisal)

Cool car but they are all over the place (all 350 cars are G92 cars). I think you can be confident to get 6K for it which is a great return on your money. 8K is convertible territory (mileage considered).

Also there are plenty of Camaros out there with the 2.77 or 2.73 axle with the 350...

Re: Wanting to know the value of my car
Not necessarily true all 350 cars are not G92 cars The Firebirds for example, the 1LE cars were G92 cars, but your typical Formula 350 and GTA did not get the G92 code, BUT in the US market it would have had the equivalent to the Camaro G92 performance group. Matter of fact, I would almost be willing to bet that there was never a GTA (Y84) with G92... There were plenty of WS4 (Y83) Trans Ams that were G92, but after 1986 they were all 1LE cars... For some years however, the Firebird Trans Am, GTA & Formula the 3.23 & 3.27 was mandatory, other years they were not. The early Trans Ams 87 - 89 I believe it was an option for the 3.27.
Also there are plenty of Camaros out there with the 2.77 or 2.73 axle with the 350...
