Re: wanting to obtain rpo codes
Sometimes the dealer can get them from the VIN. Not sure how far back they go to.

I don't think they can check the VIN that far back, I know the service parts identification label on my 91 RS was in the rear locking compartment. You can also try looking for your build sheet, but if it isn't in the car you may be screwed

I got them for my 89 several years ago, I had the rpo code sticker and for fun we checked it out.

Re: wanting to obtain rpo codes
I don't think many had success for ThirdGens older than 1989 as that appeared to be the cut-off year. Unless the car is an export.

PHS can provide an invoice with major RPO codes but not every single one.

I 2nd this... The dealer invoice will tell you anything important, like what the original paint 7 interior colors were, the engine, transmission, wheel options, tire options, etc. However in some cases standard things are not listed, nor are things like the RPO for the springs. It will indicate the performance package if equipped. If they are not listed then you might have to go through the dealer books and figure out what was standard for your car and go from there...

Some of the RPO's on the SPID are useless anyway, they had several different RPO's for springs, but for aftermarket sales they lumped them together...

It would be so awesome for history sake if the 82-89 had not been purged...

Re: wanting to obtain rpo codes
The problem is that GM had two systems - one for the US and one for Canada. In Canada you can trace back to about 1980! In the US, it was somewhat of a dealership thing as to whether or not they wanted to subscribe. I've tried to source rpo codes for US cars many times from here in Canada to see if there was some cross-over, but come up with nothing.

Re: wanting to obtain rpo codes
Only thing not purged as far as I can tell was the Canadian sold 3rd gens from 82-89... All others were wiped from their system for some unknown reason.
