History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I don't know that for sure. I found part of one screwed into the tunnel under the center console glove box, that I think was ripped off on delivery, and then this one. Some say there is also one above the gas tank, I'll let you know in about a week when I drop it.
So the build sheets on all thirdgens are stuffed somewhere between the carpet and the steel unibody?
That's just the thing... There's no set place they're supposed to be left. They (the assembly line workers) weren't necessarily even supposed to leave them in the car. Different years have different sheets scattered throughout the car, some may be more or less complete than others. The most logical explanation for the random nature of the build sheets is that often the crew assembling the car just didn't bother to pick up the trash before installing the carpet, or door panels, etc.
I couldn't even tell you how many thirdgens I've had the carpet out of... Some of which were untouched before I got there. The only "build sheets" I've ever found are between the springs and foam on the under side of the front seats. I've yet to find one under the carpet, or in a door panel, or under the interior panels as some people have reported.
That's why I'm in no hurry to pull the rest of the interior out of my cars to try to find something that might not even be there.
I agree that I wouldn't purposely tear apart the car looking for it. I'm currently tearing down my '83 for a complete restoration and so eventually I'll come across them.
Nice find. I am also jealous. Hoping I run across mine one day, but like its been said, I dont want to tear apart my car for something that might not exist.
