Re: Someone should save this car

It's rusty, paint is kaput, body is banged up, and the interior looks moldy. 50k, 150k, this is one of those cases where the condition negates the mileage. Car needs a resto, it'll never be 'right', even after someone pours a 401K into it. "She'll never dance again."

IMO for someone with basic skills who wanted to get into a Vert for cheap this car is a deal.

Sounds like my car.

Someone will be willing to work with it. Condition is definitely more important than mileage. I don't think I'd pay that just because it's all original but it's still worth saving at this point.

Of course you are right. With that said, if I wasn't tied up with that '82 Mustang, the temptation to pursue it would be overwhelming to me.

6950 could get you a lot better thirdgen. One that probably wouldn't leak all over you when it rains. If you got it for 3500 you could have some scratch left to fix it up.

Re: Someone should save this car

I think they’d have to lower the price..

Get it for $3k-4K and $12k into it and it could be nice again..

Moldy interior is actually pretty easy to fix.. steam clean that thing, get seats recovered, new top, paint..

If it was garaged it could be nice underneath.. paint might just be covered in dust.. The scrapes and dings would need fixing..

Just saying..

If it runs and drives good..

Re: Someone should save this car

As most everyone is saying, it you get it for $3K - $4K you can't get hurt too bad. This seems like simply another case of a flipper finding a car at a reasonable price and then jacking it up and jumping title to sell it to the next person at a greatly inflated price; notice he doesn't say he was the original owner....look, I have no problem with someone making money, just do it the legal and correct way, don't flip it and jump title, just spend the extra $100 and put it in your name and then sell it. I'd bet the flipper got it for $2K from the original owner and thinks he is going to make a killing on it because of the low miles....he should have spent a few hours and cleaned up the interior at a minimum.....just my two cents.

Spot on! That interior looks yucky, but the seats don't look to be ripped.

Re: Someone should save this car

It's kinda unusual for a 50k mile car to be completely missing the leather on the steering wheel, and to have the pedal covers so heavily worn. Either someone just kicked the bloody living hell out of the car non-stop, or the odometer is flipped. Either way, you guys are getting goofy for one step above beater cars. Take that $7k and the $7k you'd spend on paint + body + interior, and just buy one that hasn't been trashed. It isn't worth saving a trashed car when the price is out of line.

Now if someone fixed the quarter panel, and detailed the interior, maybe it'd be worth $7k, but I'd still rather have one that hadn't been abused.

Re: Someone should save this car

I saw a guy at a cruise night who claimed he had a 3k mile 87 IROC G92 5-speed..

underneath had visible rust, interior was dirty, seats slightly stained, and steering wheel was worn and yellow and rims didn’t look all that great.

I was expecting him to say it was 103k Miles, but he had all this documentation from the dealer that it was 3k Miles.

Story was it was in a collection, and when the guy passed away, the wife put the car outside for years and it sat because she didn’t think it was worth anything.. He got a cheap paint job which didn’t look super amazing, but he said the original paint was pretty shot from sitting in the elements..

His Buddy was trying to talk up the car and telling me it had 10 times less miles than mine.. definitely didn’t look like it..

I guess it’s possible for low mile cars to look worse than well maintained cars so the mileage might be correct.

I do think this IROC being a flame red 5-speed stripe delete Vert has some worthy things going for it.. I think for the amount of money to acquire and fix it up you could go get one that’s already show worthy. Maybe not a flame 5-speed Vert though.

Its worth a lowball offer for the right person.

It May be someone just selling it on behalf of an elderly man who doesn’t use the internet too..

I did in fact text the seller with some questions today, I couldn't help myself. No response, though. Seems if I were trying to sell a car, I'd respond to every inquiry.

This is a $2500 car that someone should buy and do a modern interior and drivetrain swap in. Buy it cheap, drop it off and Hawk's, and have them call you when it's done LOL.

Although I find this to be an interesting car, I agree that $7K is just too much for it. I mean for goodness sake, if you are trying to sell it, at least clean up the interior first! And maybe respond to inquiries!?

I don't get it either. You spend a day do some cleaning and not only make some $$$ but probably sell the car a whole lot quicker regardless of price. I do agree with you guys this car is way to high for its condition. At least wash the stinking dirt layer off for crying out loud!

I'm betting a good deep clean an detail job will bring this back around to fun driver level. No need to do 1,000 pt show car on every one of these that are brought out of the woodwork. Drive it and enjoy it as a fun toy.

Agreed. That's what I would do. The quarter will cost about a grand to fix, though.

Yikes.....that quarter is not good... I'm a painter at a body shop, and that's a pretty spendy fix. I'd love to have that car, but its definitely gonna take a ton of cash to get that car back to her glory. The interior looks like its clean up ok, but it definitely needs a full repaint

At least it’s a scrape and not a rear collision.. even with a full restore repaint and a steam clean inside it would be worth more money restored than what you’d put into it..

It would definitely need a full repaint and bodywork.. wouldnt be horrible.. $7k and it would be show worthy..

If you didn’t have to replace the top and recover the seats you’d have equity..

Thats the “Standard Equipment”

if you look on the right it says 5.0 TPI engine was charged for $745 on the price

There’s not a good shot of the rear bumper which should have the TPI emblem, but the car was ordered with decal and stripe delete so the rocker decals are not there..

Re: Someone should save this car

All the debate is silly, and the misunderstanding of how to read a window sticker is silly. The second line of text tells what engine the car has, the rest of the references to equipment on the sticker are explaining how the car is priced. No need for guess work, it's printed plain as day that it's a "5.0 Liter T.P.I. V8 Engine".

Craigslist, like Ebay, and various forums, and image hosts display images only as large as possible to fit on your screen. By right clicking and viewing the image, or saving the image and zooming in, you can usually see things in higher detail.

That is all.
