History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I just picked a (new) 1986 Yellow Iroc ik the yellows are rare but i kinda want a better look on what i got it has 85k OG miles and the guy i bought it from told me that the Black custom cloth in it is very rare because they were supposed to only come with tan it has ttops and is in really good condition i just want to know if what i have is rare and original it has the LB9 305 in it ill have pictures up soon any help will greatly be appreciated.
I kinda knew they came with both but i do believe that the black is less common than the tan idk tho i just got it like two weeks ago ill try to get pictures up later in the afternoon
plenty of yellow with black interiors out there .. now if it was a 1985 with a black lear siegler interior that would be a little rare but the 86 interiors were basically all the same ..
Thanks so much I credit the condition to the previous owners the guy I bought it from had twelve third gens at once they were all stored in a big ware house that’s where I got mine the other owners kept very good care of it I believe it’s been garage kept it’s whole life I was so stoked to find it being yellow since they are uncommon and it was one of my favorite colors
Nice car! Usually any yellow irocs i see are faded or painted a different yellow and most have gray accents not gold. Close to mine. 87 hardtop LB9/700R4. My interior is black with gray piping on the seats and gray armrests. 120k kms(Cdn) so 75k miles. Ill have to get the rpo codes once I get the car from storage. Since 1992 and never looked any rpos up except for the options I lnow of lol. Where is your yellow Iroc from?

From what I believe and have been told it was sold in Pennsylvania at a used car lot then sold to a guy in New Jersey then from Jersey it went to a collector in Maryland then to another collector in Maryland and then that’s when I bought it from the that guy and toted it back up to New York
Notice how the colour of the nose is a little bit different shade? Thats how they are with orig paint. At a car show or cruise night theres always one guy that tells you the car or the nose has been painted lol. If I remember correctly GM said it was the yellow paint that reacted with material used for the nose or maybe it was only noticeable on the yellow? It was almost 30 years ago but it was like that from the factory.

In 92, the noses were painted in Mexico and the cars in Van Nuys. Not sure when the Mexico noses started. I don’t think any colors were a perfect match because of this.
Might be showing my age here, but back in the day when i was car shopping... salesmen would always say the reason the nose and rear bumpers didn't match the rest of the car is cause they baked the paint on. So obviously you can't bake plastic, lol
