Assuming it's something you found on the forum, a private message would probably be appropriate. My thought being that if he wants to interact with the forum, he'd be watching the forum and PMs, and if not he might not appreciate email or a phone call about something posted a decade or more ago. If you've already tried a PM or email without a response, I'd assume he's not interested in discussing it. But that's just my take, I could be dead wrong.
