Taillight history.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I'm currently investigating the rpo codes on my 86 camaro. On one RPO site, I found that a T93 Is a smoked taillight. This may or may not be right. I could only find this on one of the many sites I searched. Does anyone remember what those lights looked like? Wondering if mine are original on this car obviously after 30 plus years they could be swapped out. Here are mine currently:

also the stop light is listed as smoked as well:
To me these don't look what I think factory smoked looked like but I have no idea. Does anyone remember, or have a pic of the factory color?
thanks all for looking.

Dave

That tail light was factory on 85-92 Z28, 85-90 IROC-Z, and 91-92 RS

Re: Taillight history.

T93 refers to the grid tail lights. The lights in the pic are correct for that RPO

What Drew said above. T93 is the code for the grid style taillight that is in your pic

Re: Taillight history.

I think the confusion is the term "smoked lens". I've never received a definitive answer anywhere on what exactly is meant by "smoked".

I have NEVER seen a grid style tail light any different than the one you posted in your picture, or on any other Iroc I've ever seen, including my 89, which did have T93 on the SPID sheet, and did come with those same grid lights. I don't know what they mean by smoked, but I've seen it listed that way in more than one place over the years.

Re: Taillight history.

I just look at it as they (GM) needed a code to differentiate between a base style light, and a upgrade light. The definition is just generic GM language. In a lot of cases the alternate tail lights are tinted, like the 84 Trans Am. It's just a generic definition that is applied with a wide brush.
