History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
So I ran across an add for a guy parting out a camaro and he said it was going to scrap at the end of the week, so I asked how much for the entire car because it looked to be in fairly good shape. $200 no title, wheels, hood, motor, or trans...
He had no clue what year it was and the VIN was pretty hard to read so I figured for $200 plus fuel for the 100 mile round trip I'd take a chance. Loaded it up and got it back to the shop and the RPO sticker matched the VIN on the driver's rear quarter panel. Ran the VIN and the RPO codes and it looks to be a black California RS with C&C t tops.
So do I part it out or try to get the title and sell it on?
I believe LB8 is V6. That would make a good clean slate car if you are able to get the title. If not, you can probably make all of your money back and a more on those T/A wheels if they are all the same and in good condition.
Yeah the car came with the 2.8 V6 and a 5 speed originally and the GTA wheels are actually off of my '87 IROC because they were the only set I had that with tires on them lol. So currently the RS has the GTA wheels and the IROC is on jack stands in the garage.
With only 6,618 made it is rare, but with everything missing and it only originally being a v6 I don't think you would ever get your money back if you restored it. I personally would just part it out.
I'd think those T-tops alone would be worth the $200 you paid for the entire car to someone if they're intact.
The t tops were the main reason he bought the car, and also the reason he sold it, because he though they would be the perfect replacements for his '92 with beat up lexan tops.
I bought it because I have a sickness that apparently can only be temporarily soothed by purchasing non running third gens...
The (Z5C) in your SPID designates that it was a true California RS. I've seen a couple others and they had that same RPO.They only came with a V6 and what was kind of neat is that they came with a different steering wheel than the ones the sport coupes had. They came with the same leather steering wheel as the IROCs.
