I own a 1983 Camaro SHADOW factory car...anybody know anything about it?
I own a 1983 Camaro Shadow it came from the factory with special Shadow graphics/Option and a metal rear window Lovere and The Shadow graphics...where normally the IROC z/28's have their door graphic's.It had more graphics on the hood and the trunk and roof pillars(long worn off)..I bought it in 1987 from a persons estate...he bought it new...I have only seen or heard of two...one was brand new at the time with a dealer plate and another one was for sale in a classified ad about 15 years ago.....Does anybody know if it is worth restoring as in 1987 I bought it as my daily car...and drove it summer and winter...now it sits (has sat forever in my back yard.)...I just want to know how rare this car is as even AI thinks none were ever made...But I own one which is now just dying away in my back yard....Anybody know any info about the Special Edition of the Camaro Shadow...they were I am guessing a option package Mine was a gray 4 speed...is it worth anything...or should I just junk it ?? All I know was it came from the factory that way as the "Shadow Package"....Thanks in Advance.

Sounds like some kind of dealer-installed package.
Should you restore it? Post some photos if you're looking for advice on what to do with the car.

The original owner was a old man...and besides this was equipped with the 4 cylinder 4 speed...kinda sunk into the ground from sitting in my back yard,,,but I will try to take some pictures...it 100% was NOT dealer installed...It was something you could only correctly install from the factory...and the original hood is long gone that had the SHADOW PACKAGE ON IT and the HATCH STRIPES long wore off same with the roof pillar ones from the sun beating down on them only the door ones are left...plus in the early 1990's I replaced the original white interior and installed the complete gray interior from a Camaro Berlinetta .At this point unless it has value as being rare...it may be better as a parts car...as it does have low mileage...

Good luck with your restoration.

I'm 99.9% sure it's not a factory GM option since no one has heard of it before.

It's funny how so many people think that since something was sold new in a certain way from the dealer, that it simply must be "factory".
Either way, it sounds like an interesting car and I'd like to see pictures.

If it isn't rusted beyond hope it would be cool to restore it. There are so few of these 1980s dealer modification cars left that I think they are cool just for being unique now. A relic of time gone by. Plus I love that it has the 4 cyl Iron Duke. Everyone has a cool V8 Camaro (I have TWO), but who drives a nicely restored 4 cylinder Camaro?

Re: I own a 1983 Camaro SHADOW factory car...anybody know anything about it?
There were any number of these sticker packages that people could buy to stick on their cars back then. They were a good bit more popular then than they are now. Some were somewhat mass-produced like the Choo-Choo Customs "Pro AM" package for Firebirds, or their "Team Camaro" package. Virtually none were "factory". Quite apart from anyone's personal interest, or whether they "looked" "good" or not to any given individual, they're not "factory". Those were more kinda like the little emblems you could buy on one of those spinning displays at AutoZone, where they had "Camaro" badges you could glue onto your door handles; interesting maybe, "dress-up" maybe, add visual interest to an otherwise ultimate plain-jane car maybe even, butt not "factory".
If you like stickers like that, enjoy em. Just don't expect the rest of the world to feel the same way, as in, grant a car with them stuck to it any extra "value"; which is to say, "worth more money" than an otherwise identical car that nobody stuck the stickers onto. Especially not a 4-cyl 4-spd car, which at the time, was the lowest of the low. Again, not to attack your personal taste or preference, or any such; just to point out, it may well differ from the world at large, and just because it's YOUR taste, don't expect everybody else to fawn over it and have "fond memories" of stuff like, oh yeah, I remember standing in line at AZ buying a starter or oil or something, and I remember seeing those hanging there, and I wanted some SO bad butt they were outta my budget. The world doesn't really work that way.
There's no real "history" or that sort of thing to plumb the depths of.
The rear window louver may have been factory. There was such a thing available from the factory for the first coupla years of these cars. It wasn't very popular, and for several good reasons, including that they rattled ruthessly, fall apart often, and looked kinda like a giant wart on the otherwise sleek back glass interrupting the otherwise ASTOUNDINGLY sleek lines that these cars had compared to others when they were new. Looked kinda like something left over from the 2nd gen F car at the time and were rapidly forgotten. Again, not to attack your personal taste, butt they are not remembered with fondness for the most part. If you have one and it doesn't rattle and hasn't fallen apart, then you're one of a lucky few. I doubt it has anything to do in any way with the stickers somebody stuck on the car however. There were also several mfrs of louvers that WEREN'T factory, and without a photo that somebody (other than me... I don't know the difference) could identify, or a build sheet or other documentation, there's no proof your louvers were "factory". The stickers, in any case, CERTAINLY are not. They're not an "option package" at all, and may or may not have been stuck on by a dealer, not that it makes that much difference who stuck them on there.
Doesn't sound like a car that's worth "restoring" unless it's still in pretty good shape and needs little more than a good detail job. And even then, a 4-cyl 4-spd car wouldn't be something that would get much adoration, since that's the absolute base base base model. "Restore" "worth" kinda goes along with the idea of "lots of people having fond memories" and "want to see it back again" and "wish I coulda had one like that back then" and "would be glad to buy", none of which is really all that likely in the case of that sort of car, so spend VERY carefully. Like, research what cars like it are selling (NOT "asking" price on ebay, but actually SELLING) for, and don't spend ANY more than whatever that is, on "restore", if "value", as separate distinct from "what you personally would like to have for yourself", is your goal.

Late 70's and 80's in early 90's were the American Graphic era to make cars look cool and fast.

Hasn't logged in since December 20th. Probably didn't like what he heard and just left.
I still think it sounds kinda cool. Would like to see some pics too.

Too cold/snowy/icy...gotta wait until warmer less muddy days...I actually have 2 4cylinder 4 speed Camaros none have sun roof or T-Tops...or much for accessories ..the same 4 speeds that came in the early 1970's Camaros and Nova SS.

likely a dealer option, but ironic we are giving the guy a hard time, and there is a 2002 thread on our thirdgen.org on this "package" option that provides all of us a little more insight and a pic!

And now I'd really like to see pictures, hopefully OP's car has those same mirrors. I've not seen those before, not that I remember anyway.
Re: I own a 1983 Camaro SHADOW factory car...anybody know anything about it?
You cannot see it in those pictures but they came with the graphics on the hood and hatch...and a Metal Louver over the hatch glass...surprisingly the iron duke 4 banger was almost the same cubic inches as the v6...if it was a dealer thing they sure as heck went thru a lot ...considering in 1983...it would have been expensive as heck to get the decals made in the days before PC's...and I have to look on the Louvers to see if they have a GM part # especially the fact that they were Metal and not fiberglass like all the aftermarket ones were.It was made to lok "Musclecar" without the musclecar HP...lol
Re: I own a 1983 Camaro SHADOW factory car...anybody know anything about it?
Those mirrors actually ARE factory. They came on base level trim cars in 82 for sure, as my dad had a red 82 iron Duke 4 speed with them. Wasn’t a “Shadow” or anything else, just a cheap early 3rd gen Camaro with likely close to zero options.

I like the side graphics on the Shadow.
Nope.
The third gen had the Saginaw for 4cyl. and V6 initially, until the T5 become the only manual.
The early S10 used the B-W T4. Yes, many parts identical to the T5.
