Iroc Engine Sizes

Every IROC I have looked at has an crappy lil 305TPI in it. WHat years am I most likely to find a 350 in an IROC-Z? If the rear bumper don't say 5.7 tuned port anymore I don't even bother.

There's no arguing with Drew, just confirming.

i wouldn't go by the rear bumper cover as your end all...never know what's happened to a car over the years. Look for the 8 in the 8th digit of the vin number, that's your best indication.

Also, a 305tpi/5 speed car is pretty quick. I wouldn't rule that out til you drive one. Assuming you drive stick or care to learn.

Wraith has a good point...a lot of road tests I have seen show that the 305 TPI 5 speeds, with proper gearing, were only a tick or two behind a 350 TPI in both 0-60s and 1/4 miles. Plus, you get the fun factor of buying a stick too!!

I used to be of the same opinion about 305 TPIs until I really looked at the raw #s...and there's a lot more 305s readily available too. Don't count them out.

Speeking of 305/5-speed cars, does anyone have an accurate 0-60 time for them in their stock forms.

That's a pretty wide open question... considering an LG4 or L03 with a 5 spd would pull anywhere from mid-high 16's and a 90-92 LB9 5 spd might pull mid 14's. Then you get into the peanut vs L98 cam argument and the variations of different years, etc.

From my experiance the 89 Formula LB9 5spd I test drove was just a hair faster than my LG4 auto, and quite a bit slower than my 87 Iroc 5.7L auto which is a hell of a lot slower than my 91 Formula 5.7L auto... Between that experiance and the lack of 5spd V8 cars around here, I don't put much faith in the LB9 T5 cars.

For the 305TPI speed density a reasonable 0-60 for a stock one would be 6.5 or so maybe a little less. As for did the L03 come in an IROC-Z? Check the sig.
