Yup, I've got that recall for my fuel tank filler hose but I havn't had problem with mine yet so I haven't had it fixed. Maybe I should though just for the hell of having it done for free

LOL here's what could be wrong with my car:

SOME VEHICLES HAVE BUCKET SEAT BACK LOCKS THAT DO NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 207, ANCHORAGE OF SEATS. IN EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SEAT BACK LOCK MAY NOT FUNCTION.

REAR BRAKE HOSES WERE NOT PROPERLY MANUFACTURED AND DO NOT CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 106, "BRAKE HOSES". HOSES COULD COME LOOSE FROM THE END FITTINGS WHEN SUBJECTED TO A PULLING FORCE.

THE HUB AREA OF THE WHEELS MAY NOT BE STRUCTURALLY SOUND AND THUS SUBJECT TO FRACTURE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE WHEELS COULD SEPARATE FROM THE CAR CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

DISLOCATION OF A SPRING COVER WILL NOT ALLOW THE SHOULDER BELT TO RETRACT AFTER BEING EXTENDED. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: ALTHOUGH INERTIAL FEATURE THAT LOCKS THE LAP BELT AND SHOULDER BELT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT ARE NOT AFFECTED, IF SLACK IS MORE THAN RECOMMENDED IN OWNERS MANUAL, INJURIES TO UPPER BODY AND HEAD WOULD BE INCREASED IN AN ACCIDENT.

PLASTIC COMPONENTS OF SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES DO NOT CONTAIN AN ULTRA VIOLET STABILIZER, AND EXPOSURE TO DIRECT SUNLIGHT AND ELEVATED INTERIOR TEMPERATURES COULD WEAKEN THE PLASTIC COMPONENTS.

PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTER FAILS TO OPERATE AND DO NOT WORK AFTER BRAKE PAD WEAR.

Only thing I've seen is the seatbelt retractor malfunction...

I love to see this

Defect Summary:
FUEL FEED HOSES MAY PULL OUT OF THE CRIMPED COUPLING AT THE ENGINE END OF THE HOSE ASSEMBLY.
Consequence Summary:
IF THIS COUPLING SEPERATED, ALLOWING GASOLINE TO LEAK,AND AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.

And of course the seat belt one. had this problem on my 86 camaro and the red button release is just startting to get some whit spots.
Free repairs........Makes you want to get them doen just as a sort of payback for all those repairs youve paid for.

Can I still bring my car back to get the recall fixed??? My shoulder seatbelts will not retract....and it is a recall for the '83 TA. I did replace my headliner...and while doing so the spring shot out. So should I try and get them replaced or is it not even going to happen? Is my car too old since it is an '83? Please let me know, Ill probably call the dealer tomorrow. Thanks.

My 86 TA only had two recalls, the plastic seat belt parts and the parking brake adjuster. My seat belts work fine but I've had a problem with the back brakes in general for about two years. When the back end it off the ground I can apply the brakes or even the parking brake and the back wheels will stop but when in motion the emergency brake doesn't work and when the exhaust shop pulled my car onto the lift with front sliding plates he said that my back brakes didn't work.

I wonder if there's a statute of limitations as to how long you have before you can't get the fixes done for free.

The parking brake recall on my '86 didn't even come out until '91

are you sure? i was told there was a limit. maybe it was because it was paint? it makes sense if that safetly related recalls have no time limit.

Well you've got recalls, which are generated by a safety scare, such as Firestone tires on a 97 Ford Explorer, and fbody seat belts that don't latch, and such, then you've got TSBs or Technical Service Bullitins that are GM's way of letting the dealership know that there's a problem they may or may not encounter, and in most cases if the customer bitches about it, fix it. The paint issue was a TSB, and the TSB basically stated that only cars under warranty or belonging to original owners would be covered.

I called the Pontiac Garage today, they will fix my seatbelt recall for free when it comes out of storage provided the parts are still available from GM. I dont think there is a time frame on recalls.

parking brake recall concerns only manual transmission vehicles. a word of caution on returning to the dealer with a smile and thinking that they are going to perform the seatbelt recall and you will drive away with new stuff for free and an even bigger smile. if you are into a rainbow color scheme in your car then this probably wont bother you but to most all others it may. you need to verify by whatever means necessary that the parts going into your car are, first-all of the same color and secondly-the color that they are also happens to be the same as the interior of your car. tell the service writer over the phone that when you show up for the repair\recall that you want to see the parts in his hand before you cut the car loose so that they can fix it. i know quite a few guys with multi color seatbelts because of that bull****. it was noticed on pick up right away and the dealer said, basically you are phucked-recall done -next-let me have my old stuff back-nope,cant do that ,sir-assume nothing, even when it SEEMS so simple. my 2 cents

When I spoke with the service manager he said there was a service kit that was used to 'Rebuild' the existing buckles & he is pretty sure it is still available. The last one he did was 2 years ago & was still available thru GM with the rebuild kit. Whether this is true or not, I'll have to see. But you can rest asured I will be watching over thier shoulder while it is being done & will be asking to see the parts before any repair is performed.

some recalls have time limits while others don't. recalls that concern safty issue such as seat belt do not have a time limit according to the service dept at a local chevy dealer. the problem is getting them to do the work. more than one dealer has told me that in thier computer there is no record of a recall for the seatbelt even though there is. how do you get a dealer to perform the fix then? i guess i'll keep trying to find that honest car dealership.....

Ya have to get nasty with them and make threats... Recalls aren't because GM just decided to be nice... they're because there was a legal issue... Do a little pushing and GM will make the dealer do the work. My problem is I wouldn't trust my car to any mechanic including a dealership.
