Re: dash wiring
I can't be sure of the all the exact changes, but off the top of my head:
85 used 82-85 Dash Cluster connections,.... changed in 86-89
85 was MAF with burn off relay,....86-87 did not have MAF Burn off
85 had hatch "POP" only,... 86+ had additional fuse in box for PPD hatch motor
Engine C100 connector probably very similar,... but dash-to-ECM C207 connectors probably changed. (85 more specific, but 86-87 probably very similar. )
I'd stick with 86-87 as your range just to be on the safe side. 85 was 'one year only' because of the TPI set-up and 88+ used a dash harness that's not compatible with your exiting 87 body wiring.
P.S. C207 Dash-to-ECM connector info for all Thirdgens http://berlinetta.info/C207.htm

Re: dash wiring
What - exactly - does the Engine &/or ECM harness connects to,... on BOTH sides of the car ?? I've GOT to assume that you don't realize that not all fuse boxes even deliver POWER to the car the same way ???? ( try to install an 83 dash harness into an 86 and let us know how that goes.....) Automatic Vs. Manual wiring ( for NSS, reverse lights, ect ) that runs in the ECM harness to the dash harness in 85-87, is equally as important as year to year optional equipment with regards to dash harnesses . The mis-match from the 85 to 86+ dash cluster and Hatch PPD motor are simply 2 examples off the top of my head. How exactly will the tranny lock-up the converter if the dash wiring they bought was from a manual tranny car ?? Install an automatic dash harness in a stick car and whoops - no reverse lights ?!?! Production Year and Engine type DO MATTER. Can this be overcome - sure. NOT always plug and play and some people don't have the skill for re-wiring a car.
The changes from 87-to-88 are even more significant because 88+ dash harnesses are not even compatible with the 82-87 interior body harnesses. Even the SAME YEAR 90TBI dash harness plugged into an 90 TPI ECM/Engine harness will cause significant wiring conflicts ( Fans, VSS, ect....)
Your suggestion that all engine harness will match to all dash harnesses is a bit reckless. Anyone blindly accepting that as a fact could make the mistake of buying an 85 dash harness - from ANY - engine for use in their 87 and find that they have wasted their time & $ by taking your advise.
