Steering wheel

I have a 1983 Firebird and was wondering if you guys happened to know the bolt pattern for the steering wheel in that year. or do you know of a way to find it?

It's the same as every other GM within the last 40 years.

There's one large nut that holds it onto the splined shaft. Once you remove the locking clip and the nut, you need a steering wheel puller to get it off. The new one goes right on and you can use the nut to pull it into place.

This tech article may be of some help: Installing a new steering wheel

How? Get a pair of needle nose pliers and use them to spread it, then pull it off. 15 second job.

I'm sure there are 50 other auctions if you don't win that one.

That one should work. I'm not aware of any modern era Pontiacs using a different steering column than any of their sister cars. It would have been nice if that auction included a part number so that you could check it on Momo's website.

The one you need is the Momo 2401
MOMO 2401 Steering Wheel Hub Adapter - CarDomain

Just keep in mind that the adapter is made only for Momo wheels, and others that have the same adapter bolt pattern. If you've got a Grant wheel, you need a Grant adapter, which is much less expensive anyway.

When I removed mine, you had to push down on the washer that had the spring behind it and then use the needle nose for the clip.

The clip itself had wore, due to the washer staying stationary and the clip rotation with the steering shaft. So the clip itself was engaged into the washer by like 1/64 of an inch.

And that my friend made it a pain in the a**. All I'm saying is sometimes the simplest job turn into an all day affair. I think we can all agree on that

None of my cars have had that washer. It sounds like somebody added that down the line somewhere.

Disconnect the battery, hmmm disconnect the yellow airbag wire underneath the dash, remove the stock steering wheel, install another one.

Your inflating airbag reset light will stay on, cut the wire for it or remove the light bulb.
