Pics of 91/92 door panels

Hello again,

Still working on this 84 and the swap to a 91/92 style interior.

I was just wondering if some of you with a 91/92 could post some pics of the door panels?

Were there different types in that year? IE standard/deluxe or something along those lines? Did they only come in black, or was dark grey an option?

Just want to get an idea of what to look for!

Thanks
Chris.

Nobody has any pics of the 91/92 style door panels?

Another question,
Do the 4th Gen Panels fit in our cars, w/o much modification. And Look OK with a 3rd gen dash?

Door panels are door panels, I have seem many styles and it depends on the look you are going for. There is nothing special about the 91-2 panels, if you do a search there are people who have installed 4th gen door panels but they had to modify them.

Been searching the forum, turns out the 4th gen needs too much work and cutting to the doors to make it fit.

Looking through the pics, it does seem the 82-92 panels didn't change too much.

I'm converting my doors to power windows, so need new panels. Was hoping the Camaro panels maybe got updated a little in 8 years.
----------
I wonder if the GTA panels fit OK?

There were a few differences but nothing major. Just look for panels that are warp and water stain free in the style you like. You can always make your own panels very easily (use a pair of junk panles for a template)

I think GTA panels require pontiac doors

From what I've been reading, they fit OK. You just need to swap out the metal bracket for the arm rest from a firebird too.

But I'm noticing that all the door panels pics I see, don't have any switches for power mirrors, like the camaros do. Did the bird have the switches in the console or something?

Yes. It's inbetween the window switches.

that's a bummer.

Anyone good with photoshop?

I wonder how the GTA panels would look with the Camaro door handle trim?
It looks like you could use it, just not sure how good it would look.

The Camaro door trim will not work with the GTA door panels.

bummer,
I just really like the molded look of the GTA ones, the Camaro ones are so flat.

I guess I'll have to use the Camaro ones, and maybe try some fiberglassing and build a speaker pod or something. Have it all molded in or something, try and make it look factory.

Time do some searching and see what others have done.

They came in 87, 88, and 89?? Firebirds. The GTA's have a map pocket where the window crank is on that picture.

I like the first pic, and I think that's what I'll look for.

Then, I think I'm going to try and build some custom fiberglass speaker pods into it, and blend it all together and make it look factory.

Never done fiberglass before, but might be fun.

Did you mean my 1st pic? I love these panels. I seen em in gray also. These are a little different and may be still available at my local yard. From an IROC

Ya sorry I meant to quote you.
I haven't seen them in grey, would like to see a pic of that if anyone has one.

I'm trying to make my interior a dark charcoal grey, like to see how the grey looks.

Ok , I just ran out to the garage. I thought I had em in grey and I do! I'll go snap a pic and be right back. They are off the car and a bit dirty though. I been buying door panels alot at yards. I finally found the black ones I wanted yesterday. Stay on for a few. I'll show ya the ones in my car as well.

hmm,
not sure if I like the grey or not, it's a lighter grey then I thought it would be.

I wonder how it would look darker?

I just layed the black plastics out so ya get the color contrast idea. Lighting is poor florescent in the garage but they look nice. I like the black best. Grey don't match my car but I was gonna paint em if I didn't find black soon. Or put em in my sons 91 RS maybe or sell em. I have several sets around. My car is tan and black 2 tone which looks nice but I like all black best.
I know, the orange z28 has to go. I have a 4th gen exterior emblem that I painted gold to go there.

I have that door panel in blue!

If I hadn't just spent 300 on other parts for this car, I might buy those grey ones from ya. Too bad you weren't closer, I might even do it anyways (lol)

I think when I'm ready for them, I'll find that style and maybe paint them the same color I'm doing the rest of the interior. A dark charcoal scheme, I think those would look pretty good that way.

Wow this all started out as just a dash swap, now I'm redoing the entire car!!

Thats how it always goes. What panel do u have in blue? I have another one in tan but different pattern and it has stitching going up and down and not in as good shape. I thought about painting them black as well if my new ones were never found. I just bought 2 cars all black plastics from front winshield to the back yesterday. I spent the last 2 days pulling and got some black seat belts as well, nice set. My car has the tan and they look dirty and I'm trying to weed out all white and silver and replace with gold to match the black and tan. It also matches the exterior, Burnt rust and gold. I got a 140 speedo cluster and a head liner and a black t top head liner and 1 set of black visors in the deal!

They look pretty similar to this,

Dark blue, with the 'zebra' striping as I call it.

Oh, the black on the top of the door panels in my car is painted cloth. I experimented since I was looking for new ones anyway. They turned out great but I hate tan carpet. Head liner and sail panels are tan but going black, and I got 2 sets of black sail panels when I gutted the 2 cars at the yard. I even got the black plastic trim in the door jam that the carpet is tucked under. I have many pics of door panels, red or whatever. I may be able to get ya GTA 88 Grey ones that u liked above but need to modify.

I liked the GTA but it would need to much modifying because of the power mirrors, and not being able to use the Camaro trim piece.

I think I'm going to give the speaker pod idea a try, since that would allow me a 6.5 speaker up front for some midbass. Which was lacking in the old system.

Yes I really thought my panels were shot till I painted the cloth. It looks nice but I still kept looking for the black ones I just got. I will watch for ya if I see another set if ya like, or maybe sell ya my grey ones $45.00 plus shipping. Can't get ya a price on black ones till I find another set.

I just looked at the grey ones again, and realized they are for manual windows
That's why I need new ones, I'm putting power windows in.

If you ever find some either black or grey, send me a PM. My zip is 98387 in wa.

If I haven't spent every dime I have on everything else on the car by then, I might be able to get them

I haven't even touched my stereo yet, but I will because it' junk ! I gets worse, It is silver color and needs to be black or even gold. I painted my pedal covers and ashtray gold to loose all the silver! It just don't go!

LOL, I forgot about that power window change out that you stated at the beginning of the post. I will keep my eyes open for power window panels. I see alot of yards and cars in this area. I just stumbled on this yard yesterday and they really don't sell many parts, they buy cars and crush them whole for the most part. It's not really a junk yard. I saved the life of a nice dash pad as well yesterday. I have access to alot of parts so let me know what ya need in the future. I better go crash now!

Thanks!
Ya, if you ever see any let me know.

I was thinking too, since I'm toying around with the idea of the speaker pod. I guess it doesn't really matter if there is a hole there or not. Since that will get covered up anyways.

I'm going to bookmark this page, and when I'm a little closer to getting the doors done, I'll send ya an email and see if you still have them. Are they in pretty good shape? No rips or tears or anything. The backing is still intact, no broken pieces?

Thanks
chris
