painting over GM's $$$ saving ways

As we all know, no matter the interior color of the car, the consoles, steering wheels, door handle trim, cluster bezel, HVAC and radio trim, shift ****...etc are charcoal grey. At least in 1985-up, I think. I was thinking, since my interiors are tan, to paint black every grey interior piece so I can have a tan/black interior instead of tan/black/grey. Anyone has done this before? The problem I see is the switches and HVAC panel being grey too. I can't paint them without painting over the lettering. I also thought about paint the console, HVAC/radio grey trim, and lower dash in the same tan color as the rest for a better transition between black and tan. See a ferrari F355's dash to see what I mean. Any pics or comments will be appreciated.

Or you could just replace those switches and stuff with ones from a Camaro that are already black.

I've still never seen painted trim pieces that looked natural. And for those high-traffic areas like switch/button faces and armrests the topcoat always seems to wear through. I'm sure it can be done, I'm just saying I have yet to see it done right.

I had a paint-shop tell me once, to stay away from the rattle-can plastic paints, and to go with the pro stuff that you have to mix up. What it is or where to find any, I have no idea.

I can find the "pro stuff" paint but I'd need a compressor and everything. Otherwise I'd have to pay for the job.

you could use krylon fusion... its a vynal dye.... not a paint, ive used it on a few things on my interior (even though it is a 4th gen interior) and on my console and stuff and havnt had any issues.... the only thing i havnt done it on is the steering wheel

you could powder coat the parts. That is next to impossible to wear off.

those that I have seen painted always seems to peel , or fake off. I think it's better to swap the panels out. may spend just as much to swap them out as you would to paint them.
