4th gen cluster help!
Ok, im putting a 4th gen dash/console in my 92 RS. everything is out of a 95 Z28, i tried wiring the gauge cluster like it says in the sticky but thats for an 85 and i couldnt get it to work right. Anyone done this on a 91-92? Ive done numerous searches and only found people telling people to do a search
everything else is going smooth, i had the dash in and ive got the wiring for the headlight switch working fine but the only thing holding me up is the gauges. ANY help will be much apreciated. thanks

Re: 4th gen cluster help!
Do you have a service manual for your RS? If not, let me know and I'll try to get some pics from mine of the factory gauge cluster pinouts. Should be the same, I have a 91 Z28.
As for the 4th gen, this should come in handy ...

You'd be surprised how many of the wire colors match up.
And just for the heck of it, here is my progress on my car ...

Re: 4th gen cluster help!
well. i thought i had it wired up good. the speedo came up a bit with the key turned so i thought that it was working. got the whole dash and console in except the top pad now, must have pulled something loose putting it on because my speedo doesnt work at all or the dash lights and the tach jumps. seems like the fuel gauge and batt work the oil sticks at the top but it did that with my old dash. i gotta rip out the whole dash again and go thru the wires for the cluster. i dont have a manual, that pic of the 4th gen connector explains alot. do you have something like that for the 91-92? did you have alot of extra wires that didnt go to anything?

Is your speedo pegged at the top speed? for example mine was pegged at 150mph because during shipping the needle moved there. I installed it, it didnt work. So I pulled the cluster out and shook the needle back to zero MPH and it worked.

Re: 4th gen cluster help!
no its just not working at all. the tach is all jumpy and useless and the dash lights and speedo dont work at all. not sure but i think the fuel gauge and temp work. oil pressure pins to the top when i start it but not when i turn the key. im going to take the dash back out and try wiring up the gauges again. if anyone has something that shows which wire goes to what in a 92 i could probably get it.

Yea, sorry I didnt get to it earlier. Here are the pin outs for the cluster plugs from my 91 service manual. Should be the same for the 92. I dont remember which plug is C1 and C2 though ...

Re: 4th gen cluster help!
ok so i rewired it all. everything seems to be working. fuel/oil/temp the tach is still jumpy, reads about 2200 at idle and when i rev it it jumps around up to about 4k when i know im only revving about 2. the speedo jumps up a little bit when i turn the key or start it. is there anyway to test the speedo without actually driving it? i expect it to be off but i want to know that its working b4 i put the dash back in. im going to be messing around with it some again tonite, ill try to get some pics for u guys if i get the dash back in even tho i dont have the upper paad or the shift plate with the boot yet.

Re: 4th gen cluster help!
All done! gages work great(except the tach is jumpy) the speedo reads fine and is surprisingly accurate. all my cluster functions are working, and i turn a **** to turn my headlights instead of pulling one
. Slep, thanks for all your help and those diagrams man! couldnt have done it without those
. im going to be making a custom switch panel to go in where my heater/ac controls would be for my nitrous switch and pressure gage soon and i need to get a top dash pad andshift plate for the console and then it will be complete. other than that it looks great, is more comfortable to drive and i have a cupholder! ill get some pics soon as i get the stuff im missing.
----------
OH, also ill be selling the old dash and console stuff if anyone is interested. the dash pad has a crack down the middle and the armrest has seen better days but the rest is good looking. has the RS 25th anniversary badge and the 110mph gage cluster. the car is a 5speed, so the console is for a manual with the shift pattern below the shifter.

Re: 4th gen cluster help!
Glad I could help. My tach is also jumpy and not even close, I have heard that I/we need a Dakota Digital box to fix that ... THIS ONE but I have also heard that an LT1 cluster should work fine on a factory V8 car ... dunno. And dont get overly excited about the cup holder on the console, its more in the way than anything.
