Nooooo! My driver seat ripped!

Years of sun damage took their toll on my driver's seat and today I noticed that there is a 3/4" tear in the back support. What is the best way to fix this? I am definitely going to get seat covers now. If I dont find seat covers that fit correctly im going to make my own. Anyone know of seat covers that will fit my seats? Where can I find fabric of a similar color/texture to make my own seat covers if I cant find good pre-made ones?

Re: Nooooo! My driver seat ripped!

If I did buy seat covers, they would have to match the rest of the interior in terms of colors. It would have to be a similar shade of blue. (two tone if possible).

Get the needle & matching thread out and sew up a neat repair. Didn't your mother or the Army teach you to sew???

I'm afraid thats a skill I do not have yet. I could probably sew it up, but not correctly. Whats the best technique to sew it up? I'm sure there has to be some technique that will make it look like the thread is not even there or minimizes its visibility and most importantly, maximizes its durability.

Lol to minimize the visibility, you'd have to sew it from the inside. Sew it up with the right shade of grey and you should be good. Now, to keep a single person from seeing it... just sit down

Re: Nooooo! My driver seat ripped!

My current cloth seats are way sun damaged but totally in tact. I bought seat covers that match interior and continue the hunt for tan leather seats to replace the ones I have.

Looking at your tear, it does look like you can repair that. It's only a matter of time though before you are in the same "looking for seats" boat as I. Make the repair, get some covers, make it last. Your option is new seats I suppose.

As far as I can determine, those seats, twin Lear/Seigler, are fairly rare, so I doubt you'll be able to find covers for them. More info:

By the way, jaime, is the pass side electric too?

Only the driver's seat is electric. Darn, having rare seats is not good news in this case I'm going to sew up the tear and start tracing patterns for a cover for it.

Re: Nooooo! My driver seat ripped!

I had these seats when I had my 85 trans am... They are by far the most comfortable seats I have sat in, alot more comfortable then the 4th gen seats which i currently have. I ended up taking them out before I sold them even though they were ripped. I started making templates to reproduce the cover but I ended up getting a lil to ahead of my self. I still have all these parts for the seats sitting in my basement. I am still glad i never threw these seats out!! KEEP THESE!!!!!
