How to remove steeringwheel ?
Couldnt change the ignition lock cylinder yesterday,
have to order an Steering wheel disambly tool... for $12.. i think
Is there any other tool I need ?(or could I just jiggle the steeringwheel and take it off without any special tool?)
in the haynes manual it says I need an lock plate depressor tool do I really need that one if I shall change the ignition lock cylinder?
because I dont think I can get it in Sweden...
And the car has to be ready in about ~10days..
Will I do fine with only the puller tool (Steering wheel disambly tool).
Please help me out.

Get the puller and you MUST have a security plate tool, you can rip it off with your hands but its impossible to put back on without the tool unless your a he man. both tools cost around $50 together and also make sure you take out every screw before you try to pull things I broke my signal lever internals once becuase i thought it was jsut being stubborn but there is some pretty well hidden screws in there.

This web page will walk you through, right down to fixing the tilt screws. It's from a Fiero site, but identical in every way.

Re: How to remove steeringwheel ?
As far as I know you only would use a lock plate compressor tool if you have a tilt column.I needed one to change my turn signal switch when it broke

Was it a tilt wheel? It matters on a tilt, don't know on a non-tilt. On a tilt it keeps the the upper shaft centered and secure.

Re: How to remove steeringwheel ?
me why? i put it back in just how it was and it had been working fine. I've been driving the car around for months. You probably have me confused i wasn't asking for help i just mentioned i swapped out my ignition switch without using that security plate tool. Well I parted out the car already and have that column sitting in my garage as a spare

*Flex's*
I must be a HE MAN.
Heh, just playin. Its possible to put back on with 2 people but its EXTREAMLY aggrivating trying to get it right and it kills your hands trying to push down on the plate that hard. Not to mention its probably not good for the seat, what with the back pressure your putting on it and all.
BUT, none the less, it can be done if you have 2 competent people with more than your adverage housewife's strength in em.

Re: How to remove steeringwheel ?
you will need to pull the plastic trim under the column... the big piece that the fuze box cover attaches to. the VATS wire snakes through the column and there is a connector underneath. to make installation of the new VATS wire easier you can cut the old wire at the cylinder and then tie or tape it securely to the connector end of the new cylinder's wire and use it to pull the new wire down through the column. then just plug it in. remember to save the resistor from the old key so it can be uset to set the new key's resistance value.

Re: How to remove steeringwheel ?
I had always thought that there was a plastic cover down there, when I bought my car it seemed not to come with one.
If anyone has a spare they would be willing to part with, PM me and let me know a price.
