Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

Took a look at the IROC today to see what 4th gen parts I was going to install first and I found this "option." The back of the car is black carpeted from the sail panels back. Also, I have the Bose stereo and there are 2 8" subwoofers in the rear as well. I'll put up a pic later today. Is this part of a special package, or did a lot of people get this "option?"

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

If the entire panel is carpeted, leaving no plastic showing at all, then it is non-factory. My 86 IROC has the same carpeting. The factory amplified sub option goes in the place of the rear "Glovebox" on the drivers side, left. Kinda rare in 87. Its worth money if you take it out and dont want it.

Yeah, the entire panel is covered not showing any plastic. I actually have 2 subs instead of just the one on the driver's side. I have pics below.

I thought it was kinda weird/rare, because I've never seen the carpet back or 2 subs in the rear hatch area. Do you think it would be possible to take the little subs out, cut bigger holes and put 2 12's or 15's?

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

If you have the bose option then you should also have the bose kick panels up front.I have the bose hard hatch cover and a pair of kick panels in my basement that were pulled from a 1987 LT Camaro. The carpeting on the rear plastics was the deluxe interior

Your kick panels should be thick and not flat like regular kick panels

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

I would love to have those kick panels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is bad-a**!
I want some!! I have not seen those before. The rear one I've seen. Some restorer will want the rear well panel, I wouldnt cut it up. Besides, its plastic, if you cut it and drop 1 or 2 heavy subs in it then it will crack. Build a board out of 1/2" mdf and use the cover as a template, then cover it with black carpet. It will last, sound better and look better too!

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

Thanks for all the info guys!! As to how it sounds, I don't know lol. The motor's still not in it and the guy I bought it from said it only works sometimes when you mess with the radio. I'm guessing a ground wire. Regardless, I'm most likely pulling everything Bose out of the car because I'm changing the headunit.

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

Yeah my 90 Iroc has the bose stereo option. I installed two kicker 6.5" subs in there powered by an alpine amp and it sounds very nice. I like the fact that everything looks stock and i get some very nice base out of it.

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

Those rear speakers are not subs. The Bose system is a 4 speaker system and those are the rear speakers. The bose system has an amplifier at each speaker. By removing those and adding just subs, you only have a left and right from the front and bass from the rear.

Also, the carpet is factory as part of the deluxe interior package.

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

my 88 had the option, i stripped it all out and sold the pieces.
i got 165 out of the kick panels, and almost 200 bucks for the rear amps and speakers.
i kept the cover itself to hide my nitrous bottle and make for a more clean interior.
my buddy at GM said that the rear bose cover with amps and speakers is still available for 1300 bucks. LMAO.

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

I have that in my 87 LT. Red carpet all over and the Bose System. I did manage to hook up 6x9 speakers in the sail panels to the rear Bose and then the upper dash speakers to the lower front kick panel speaker. Very nice and loud.

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This "Option?"

My 89 had the same deal, all carpet with the Bose option, rear area light. Good sounding system but with all the road noise in the car it was lost on some highways. Really amazes me how Bose gets so much sound out of the small speakers they use in most of their stuff.

Carpeted rear panels was known as the "deluxe interior." Your kickpanels should also be carpeted.

Any vehicle that had Bose in it has the same deal--amp on speaker design. And yes they are VERY spendy to replace. For the cost of a speaker on most Bose systems you can usually buy a NICE head unit, and in some cases a nice SYSTEM.

thats exactly what i did.
sold off the stuff and basically bought a system for free.
looking back on it, i wish i would have held onto all that stuff.
10 years ago i didnt know much about it, and really didnt care then.
could be worth a lot more in the years to come.
