Overhead counsel...

How common is the overhead counsel? I was able to get one from a junkyard because I thought they were rare. Is that true or did I just waste money? Only thing wrong with it is the dome light lens is yellowish and the flashlight is missing. Does that depreciate the value a lot?

How hard is it to put in a thirdgen that came without the overhead counsel? Are the bolt holes still there, but covered by the headliner?

Re: Overhead counsel...

i think its more of a personal prefrence there. i wouldt imagine any value depreciating over that( i didnt spell that right) as far as the flash light goes i have seen them on ebay. i lost one for 35$ then decided to fix my internals on my exisiting one. and when you find out about the lens let me know cause mine is yellow to and have not seen a replacment for the center console application.

The overhead is common enough--the rare one is one that's complete. Purchasing the individual pieces is a trial in perseverance. Value as you describe is negligible. If the yellowing is caused my cigarette smoke, it can be cleaned with plastic polish or perhaps good ol' soap and hot water.

There's a better how-to install on site.

Re: Overhead counsel...

I installed one in my 86 Iroc T Top Car a few years back.Personally I love the look of an overhead console.I think it adds to the cars interior. It was pretty easy to do and really didnt take too long.My headliner is shot and still needs to be redone so I wasnt worried about messing it up

Re: Overhead counsel...

just for info. i had the same problem with that little stowage bag. i spent about a whopping 8$ at wal mart bought some new elastic. some black thread and sewing needles and sewed a new tighter elastic and it looks so much better. of course i had to play grandma for a couple hours and sew on my rocking chair. but i hated when you would drive buy a very reflective window and google at your car only to see that stupid elastic hanging down.

I wrote a guide and submitted it to the site when I installed mine.

Follow that, it should guide you in the installation, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Re: Overhead counsel...

So the holes for the four mounting screws are on all cars, they just aren't threaded on cars that came from the factory without the overhead counsel?

Other then the elastic being stretched out, the pocket is fine. If you are referring to the little round lens in the swiveling map light, I have that, however the dome light lens is the one that is yellowed. ModerDayMuscle doesn't sell that. Now when you say aluminum pegs, do you mean the four screws that have that plastic washer/spacer around them that the overhead counsle slides onto? I have all the screws (the 4 with the plastic thing on them and the two that go in the dome light area) required to install it.

Only thing I forgot to get is the reinforcement piece for the headliner, and the extra bit of wire that has the lug to connect old dome light wires to the new overhead counsel wiring. I'll go back tomorrow and pull that stuff.

PS - How do you take off the pocket? Pull off those six little metal rings that are piched on the plastic spike things?

The reinforcement piece is basically 20+ cardboard, so be gentile.

Yes.
