Re: High beam switch
Search Dimmer switch, its on the lower steering column (right above your feet), held in with 2 bolts, and only cost @ $15. It's really easy to change.

Re: High beam switch
Is your issue that its clicking and nothing is happening (dimmer switch at base of column) or that there is no clicking (rod needs adjusted or fixed/replaced)?

Re: High beam switch
towards the bottom left side of the column you will see a rod, it should be making contact with the hi beam switch. Make sure it moves up and down when you pull the signal arm back. If it does adjust it accordingly if not I think you have to take apart the column? Thats whats happening to me right now...

Re: High beam switch
I would make sure the rod is in place 1st, if it is, just get a new switch. IMO, $15 investment is worth it before taking apart the steering column. I just look at like, at least I know it's new, and won't crap out on me anytime soon. If the new dimmer switch doesn't fix the problem. Your only out $15, but you gain a little piece of mind.
Re: High beam switch
I have the same problem and I pushed the switch manualy and the brights work. The problem is the rod dosent push the switch far enough so I think Ill try to move the switch up when I install my new alarm this weekend. so before you spend any money try using the switch by pushing it were the rod does and if it works youll know its not the switch. I will up date you guys about mine when I get to install the alarm on tuesday.

Re: High beam switch
I had the same problem. . . switch worked, but no contact.
Since I couldn't get my hands around the colum to adjust it, I just cut the eraser off the top of a pencil and cut it down enough so that the rod connects, but doesn't pop out of the hole in the switch. Just enough to fill the gap.
Did that over a year ago, still works, no problems at all.

Re: High beam switch
i just got my hands on a1990 rs and my dimmer switch isn't even clicking. the previous owner said his pants pocket caught the switch on the column. is there any reason that i should be worried about damage inside the column? i really need my high beams because i do a lot of 5am driving in the country and there are plenty of deer. not to mention this is my only vehicle since the motor went in my s10 and my 71 mustang is getting major body repairs.
Re: High beam switch
ok so after some piddling and sweating i found my problem...the piece inside the column that the rod connects to,at the steering wheel end ofthe column is broke. so now i need to know how the heck i get the single piece plastic column cover off? and im assuming that the part i need to replace is actually the turn signal switch. any tips on getting the plastic column cover off?

Your going to have to pull off the steering wheel and take the upper
part of the column off. Really no easy way out on this fix.

Re: High beam switch
Well I got lucky, my rod wasn't traveling enough(poor choice of words) to click the switch. easy fix, pulled the rod out of the switch with needle nose and filled the hole with some wadded up electrical tape, put rod back in and -bam works like a charm .... one more problem off the list.

High beam switch frustration
This is my first journey into the world of third gens. Recently bought a 91 RS Vert and replaced the dimmer switch. Everythng works fine until I tighten the bolts that attach the column to the dash. It's as if the switch gets stuck. Cant see anything binding the rod or switch. Has anyone else come across this?

Re: High beam switch
On the later cars, it's usually the pivot pins have backed out, and the rod has slipped out of the cup on the switch. If there's a lot of wobble in the tilt joint of the column, fix that first.
