over head console swap. Need help

OK well I noticed that the overhead has 3 wires where the small dome light just has two. The two wires in the car now are both white. The over head has orange, white, & black wires. Can i just tap into the white wires with the orange, & white on the overhead, then run the black wire to ground?

I'd try white to white and orange to white. The black is ground.

Ya that seems like a no brainer, but I want to be sure before I go cutting wires. So that's two to none.

Anyone else?

Re: over head console swap. Need help

I kind of need a definite answer to this as well.
I have a hardtop that didn't have an overhead console but I got one out of
a salvage yard and want to install it. Of course there are no stock set of
wires already set for the installation so I need to know what I should do with
the white and orange wires from the map light connector.
Like he said, the black is easy. That goes to ground.
What can I do??????????????????

Since you don't have the snippet of wiring that connects overhead to car, can you return to the JY and pick it up? If not, you'll have to cut and experiment. If you didn't come away with the mounting studs either, I have a set for sale. Should you be interested, PM me.

Re: over head console swap. Need help

I took as much of the wiring I could short of tracing it to its source underneath the dash. I stopped at the where the pillar meets the dash.
I just need to know what and/or where I can connect these wires. Or
if one is the hot wire and/or one that is the control wired for the button.
I have all the mounting studs and everything for it. In fact I got two of them
from the same yard. I always like to have an extra on hand just in case.

Sounds like you have all you need. Step #8 of the following link may be helpful:

Re: over head console swap. Need help

Would'nt splicing the map light into the dome light cause it to come on when the door is opened?

I'd wire the map straight to a "hot" circuit.Since the switch can turn it off, but i dont remember which wire is which.

Re: over head console swap. Need help

Yeah I kinda figured that I wanted to try to wire to a straight "hot" source.
Don't really want to splice it cause I want to be able to operate it separately.
That's why I took the spare
Now I can take a 9v and experiment to see which is the hot wire.
Thanks for the help guys.
