I am in Australia and we use metric guages. I have just bought a set of metric guages from a 89 Trams am to swap into my car. My question is can I change the numbers to read the same as my old cluster?

I think there should be a way you can keep rolling the number wheel upward until you reach the correct mileage...
you can remove the odometer mechanism from the guages and swap them. Its not hard, justa binch of screws. I've done it before

You do not say if your old cluster was metric or not, if not then your old odometer numbers will be in MILES not KILOMETERS so swap would not be accurate

you can remove the wheel and one by one set the numbers, it took me 15 minutes to match my mileage, alsop i dont think the number wheel matters for mile/kilos. i think there is adifferent gear ratio inside for the two thats it
Should be getting the new one in a matter of days and will check it out. Will let you all know how it turns out. thanks.

The early mechanical speedos are easy to adjust,....... Last winter I converted my step fathers dash to a full gauge set-up - it was a mechanical speedo and got converted to an electric Speedometer. Your car should also be electric.
I found it was easier to simply roll the odometer gears forward with a drill until I got the correct mileage showing on the odometer than it was to pull it apart and 'manually' change the reading by hand.
After setting the odometer in his replacement speedo to match his cars actual mileage, I re-set the odometer on another cluster all the way to Zero using the same method. ( The drill had a small rubber bit on the end of it. ) It took a LONG time to roll it all the way to '0' !!!

And that's why they don't make mechanical speedo anymore !


My current one is in miles with little kilometers and the odometer is in miles. Can I switch into the new one the old odometer to read in miles? Or, will they not match?

So if I ever find a 145 mph cluster for my 92 RS can it be rolled back or reset to the mileage on the old original 110?
From what I gather, you should be able to do either one. Or, maybe change your old odometer to the new one. That is the route I may go.
